@AggieDaze: I had something similar happen with eggplant and LO1! Who knows if it was real or just the right time, but it's an interesting coincidence.

Right before 39 weeks, I was anxious and had plans to eat Italian that night with girlfriends. Since I'd read that eggplant parmesan gets things moving, I decided to order that and eat it. Figured why not? Well, I went into labor the next day and had my son the following. Perhaps it was just a coincidence but I figure... it certainly didn't hurt anything to try that - same with spicy food (if you like it), pineapple, etc). I don't think I'd ever try castor oil or more intense efforts. Sex, for example, was not happening.

I shared this story at a baby shower where a coworker was 36 weeks and one of the meal options was eggplant parmesan. She went into labor the next day. Again, perhaps a random coincidence but I'll certainly be eating it again when I'm past the 37 week mark.

I think I'm going to relax, enjoy my last few days, and see what happens. :)

All of you who tried castor oil are brave! It sounds pretty unpleasant.

My induction with LO1 wasn't scheduled so I had no chance. With LO2 I tried red raspberry leaf tea, walking a mile plus daily, near daily sex, bouncing on a yoga ball, nipple stimulation, membrane sweep (by my OB), castor oil. She stayed in until my induction date. I made progress doing all that but none of it actually got her out.

@Cascademom - :silly: I also needed to finish up a presentation for work, and the judges I was presenting to were so worried that I was going to go into labor right there! Oh, and DH had a work dinner/talk the night before the induction, so I definitely did not want to go into labor early since he had to rely on public transportation and was an hour away!

@lemong: Controlling childcare arrangements, haha!! We did everything we could to prepare our childcare providers to take care of LO #1 during labor. Instead, LO #2 started labor on a holiday when one of the two providers was out of town. Luckily, one of our faves was available to help us on that day. She saw me in labor fighting contractions as we got LO #1 ready for his time with her. Best laid plans indeed.

I had an induction scheduled for 41+1, but my water broke 2 days before that. I didn't do anything besides walking, which I had been doing anyway.

Nope - I had was induced with both kids, but with LO1, it wasn't scheduled. With LO2, it was scheduled, and I did NOT want to go into labor early because I wanted to be able to control child care arrangements for LO1!

I didn't do anything. I had a similar experience of rising blood pressure and a scheduled induction. LO #1 beat his induction date by two days. I went into labor two days ahead of it. What's funny is that the Friday we scheduled the induction. I relaxed and accepted it. I had contractions Monday morning and he was born by 6pm that night. I guess relaxing was key for me.

I did not. I did a lot of research, and all of the method I found either do not work, or they work but are more likely to lead to a complications (i.e. a C-section, which is what I was most nervous about anyway) than a medical induction. If I remember correctly, nipple stimulation and castor oil are the things that are supposed to work. I went into labor three days before my scheduled induction. I cried when I scheduled the induction, and even though it was not needed, in retrospect it would not have been so bad. It would have been really nice to have my OB do the delivery.

I found that bouncing on an exercise ball was extremely comfortable. So, I did that a lot leading up to the birth of M just because it helped ease so much of my pain. Not sure if it helped but it sure did feel good. :)

I was having symptoms of pre-e and induction kept being brought up as a possibility. So at 38 weeks I did nipple stimulation (just manual), ate a ton of pineapple, got a prenatal massage, and had sex. It worked and I went into labor that night and had my daughter the next morning. The only thing I regretted was the pineapple (which I threw up in transition).

I thought about asking my dr if I could have sex but considering my water broke weeks before I thought she would think I was crazy. Plus, the thought of doing it in a hospital bed didn't seem all that comfortable for either of us.

My step-sister SWORE by castor oil, but I was too afraid of the nasty side effects to try it. I tried the yoga ball, dates, pineapple, and spicy food to no effect. I had several people tell me that cleaning their floor on the hands and knees triggered labor for them, but yeah...no thanks. Same with sex. The thought just made me hurt.

I haven't made any dilation/effacement progress in two weeks and my blood pressure is climbing, so I've got an induction scheduled for next week. I'm torn between trying whatever I can to get labor started on its own or just going with the flow and if I go into labor before then, great.

For several weeks I've been drinking raspberry leaf tea and walking. I know the tea is supposed to make contractions more effective, not start labor. I'm going to keep doing both these things because I like them.

I could also try bouncing on a yoga ball, spicy food, pineapple, evening primrose oil, nipple stimulation, etc. Honestly it all sounds exhausting, but I kind of wonder if I will regret not trying something.

Did you try to get labor to start before your induction? Did it work? Or did you let things happen?
