@gingerbebe: maybe I just got a dud :-( The little stopper in the main walls of the tub just wouldn't stay shut.

@SweetiePie: That's so crazy, we have the Mommy's Helper one and love it! It has a little saddle to keep them from slipping under and we've used it indoors and outdoors. No problems here.

Also for travel the Mommy's Helper drying rack is awesome since I know you guys travel a lot.

I loved the idea in theory, especially for travel! But the one we got unfortunately would not stay inflated. Tried twice and it deflated slowly while my son was in it both times. I am tempted to try another though since they are so inexpensive and can be really convenient.
This is the one I'd advise against:

@twodoghouse: That's what we did, too, and it worked out well for us. I also didn't want more gear cluttering up our house - we have enough baby stuff as it is!

Early on we did a kitchen sink bath with this little mesh chair that fit perfectly inside the sink basin. It made DH feel better that the baby wasn't sitting directly on the sink where food and whatnot has been.
We tried to use the plastic tub that has a mesh sling for infants. But it didn't work for us. The mesh sling was stretched so tight across that it had little give. So the baby didn't lounge down into the water instead he stayed above it and we felt like he would just roll right off.
When he got to the sitting up phase we went back to the plastic tub without the sling but it was slippery and didn't make it easy for him to lounge back in.
We finally but the munchkin duck and really liked it. We used that for about 6 months until he was a little stronger and more active. Then we went back to the plastic tub so that we didn't have to fill-up the whole tub.

We used that ducky tub as our travel tub and a little play pool. We did not use it as our everyday tub. We used the puj tub and then moved to a bath ring (which I know have all been recalled but I feel they are perfectly safe when common sense is used).

@PurplePeony: she can still sit with her legs fully extended and still has a lot of fun in it, but it is starting to look a little cramped :) we'll probably set her free in the big tub in the next few months. its been perfect for us though. Def wouldn't fit two kids but for one its great! Just don't fill it all the way up for really little ones, they kind of...float with all that baby fat :)

@CObee: is it really big enough for a 3-year-old? I was considering that one but so many reviews said it was really small and I haven't been able to find one to look at in person.

We went from folding infant chair directly to the regular tub. I just filled an inch or two and let him lay there and splash. Very briefly we used a laundry basket in the tub, but didn't really find it necessary.

and loooooove it. My 3 year old still takes a bath in it and loves that we can fill it all the way to the top so she can stay nice and warm :) I liked that it accomplishes what an inflatable does (smaller space, less water) but it's super easy to fold and put away, is bpa-free and even more convenient than an inflatable :)

We've been using the duck tub for about a year and it just got a slow air leak so it needs to be re-inflated every time we bathe her. I hate using the big tub because it wastes so much water, but I can't find a reasonably-priced tub big enough for a toddler so I'm not sure what we're going to do. I've heard of people using plastic storage bins as bathtubs but haven't tried it myself. I think DD is going to miss the duck when the leak finally gets too bad and we have to retire it. Maybe I'll just get another, it's cheap.

We had the ducky tub, but didn't get too much use out of it. We used it as a travel tub a couple times but I don't think DH really liked it. It didn't seem to have as much room as our whale tub. And once DS started to stand in it, DH really didn't want to use it.
