We trained with xs potty patties for a bit after cloth diapering. But going straight to underwear and bracing for a few wet days in the beginning was all it took. If your kid is ready(reliable) I would do the liner with panties or just panties. If no progress in a few days try a new approach.

@Maysprout: I didn't cloth diaper, so I'm not help with that one. :( I found that the gerber pants are very cheaply made and don't really absorb anything. Plus, they were huge on my DD. I think they work better for bigger/older kids.

How do you feel about disposables? We used some of the Huggies training pants on road trips and they were fine for the short period we used them. Plus you can buy them at Costco for really cheap.

@Maysprout: Sounds like my little boy. Yeah, we have pretty much reinvested for potty training. The gerbers start at 2T and they don't fit my little guy. My friend also has trouble with them on her 2 year old. See if you can find any trainers used.

That is one reason I want the Flip to work because it is a shell and I can use my regular inserts. We have put our disposable inserts (Grovia) into undies or trainers for him. But he needs something he can pull up and down himself. We haven't had luck with diapers on him.

He wears a lot of 7th generation 2T pullups too because he can do those more by himself. It's a really hard time with early potty learners. We have to have something waterproof for preschool.

@Honeybee: @brownie: Hmmm.... I have a lot of stuff for cloth diapers, would it work to just use a cloth diaper insert instead of buying fancy underwear? I didn't realize the cloth training pants were like $15 each. I saw some from gerber that are cheaper, maybe I'll try them.

She's 17 months old and I basically just want something so she feels like a big girl since she doesn't always want to wear her diaper anymore and she's fairly reliable in the mornings. I wouldn't trust her going out yet but I guess we'll get to that point and I might want the padded roos for backup.

I don't know how old or big your little one is. My little guy is 18 months old and 20 pounds so teeny tiny. It's been hard to find things for him. We really like the blueberry training pants. They have a little PUL inside of them as well. But they feel wet and definitely get wet.

My friend really likes the Kissa's for her 2 year old when they are out on the town. I didn't find they were as easy to pull up and down as disposable pull ups and he really needs to learn how to pull his clothes on and off. So we are trying the Fuzzibuns, Grovia, Flip and Best Bottom Pullups.

The Best Bottoms you can just change the insert if it gets wet and it has the PUL so it doesn't get on clothes. They are very trim but for my little guy they seem a bit big still. The Fuzzibuns are way too tight around the legs and I don't think I can make my guy where them long because of that. I like the Grovia's but they are not the trimmest. I am waiting on the Flip to try that one.

We used Potty Scotty pants with DD; I bought the boy version so I could reuse them with #2. I liked them. They're just like little underwear (like briefs), but have a little bit of extra cotton to absorb up to one pee. They're also cheap and stand up well to multiple washings, and I don't think they're very bulky, at all. Just a tiny bit more padding than regular underwear, but (obviously) less mess.

The only thing I don't like is that they're pull-on style, just like real underwear. For pee accidents it's fine, but it can get really messy with poop accidents (especially if your toddler is bouncing all over the place whil you're trying to change her). I'm not sure if we'll reuse them for DS or not. I might end up rebuying something with side snaps, like these ones:

http://www.amazon.com/Kissas-Waterproof-Pocket-Training-Pants/dp/B0053OSQK4/ref=sr_1_1?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1352140842&sr=1-1&keywords=side+snap

Oh, I'll also say the Potty Scottys were a little big on DD, but she also wore them from 15-18 months and she's pretty thin, so that might not be an issue for you, depending on your LO's age/size.

We have prefolds that we haven't used since LO was little so I thought they would be good to use again on LO while we're potty training. They're good sometimes but she seems to be very excited when she doesn't have to put any sort of diaper or pre-fold on and she just pulls back up her leggings. She is really good in the mornings about only peeing on the potty so I was thinking I should get her some underroos,
There's some training pants that have more cotton to absorb if they have an accident, but I feel like they might be a bit bulky and might as well go for the regular 'roos, we'd only be using them at home.
Anyone have any experience?
