I had a pretty flexible schedule so I could come in late occasionally. I did have to take some days off in the early second trimester due to migraines. It was terrible! With my second I didn't use a sick day the entire pregnancy. But my company closed for two weeks during Christmas and New Years, which was the height of my ms, so that helped a lot. And I rearranged my schedule so I got off early. I basically vomited 3-5 times per day for 20 weeks, and 1-2 times per day for five more weeks. There was no hiding my pregnancy from my boss. She was also pregnant but had very little ms (no vomiting and only nausea if she didn't eat breakfast). I didn’t want to use days that early in part to bank my time and in part because I didn’t want to set that impression with my team (note, my manager at the time was not supportive of pregnant women and working mothers so that drove part of my reluctance to use PTO early). I mostly just closed the door to my office and barfed all day. Fun times. I was a teacher with a long commute so it just made sense to rest for the remainder of the day. I had to save all my days for LOs many sicknesses. I was on 3 anti nausea medications that cause drowsiness and dizziness, so I definitely had some days where I just sat at my desk miserably and didn't get much done, but I was there. I did telework a few more days when the dizziness was bad (didn't feel safe to drive) or would delay going in until traffic had died down a little when feeling nauseous (the stop and go was terrible when nauseous). If I didn't have the telework or flex option, I probably would have taken more time. I took an impromptu half day at 11 weeks after doing a Habitat for Humanity. I went home and went to sleep. I didn't take other PTO related to pregnancy symptons just doctor appointments.
