When she was very tiny I usually got her right away, but after a few months it depended on what time it was. If it was a time I knew she'd normally eat anyway it was easier to just go do it than wait her out, since I wasn't sleeping then anyway. If it was too early or shortly after she ate I waited longer. And sometimes I actually couldn't sleep and needed those let down hormones to help me sleep, so I'd jump right up. ;)

Depends on when it happens. If it's around the 40 min mark from when she went down then I figure it's her struggling to link her next sleep cycle and leave her for a bit.

Although in the motn I've been woken up by her and by the time I get to her she's already back to sleep.

Okay, good... In my middle of the night haze, I was beginning to worry if I was messing up his sleep cycle somehow.

Heck no! I allow a couple of minutes of fussing and then go get him. I figure the quicker they eat, the faster they go back to sleep and so do I! My boys just naturally dropped their feeds over time.

If I know that it's a time that he usually wakes up to feed, then I would just go in and scoop him up, nurse, and be back to bed in 15 minutes. If he'd already eaten, I might let him fuss it out a bit. I could never go back to sleep when I knew he was awake and fussing, I just always "knew" that the second I drifted off he'd start crying.

I try to get to him before he wakes up fully, or else it's harder to get him back to sleep. It's also harder to feed a distressed baby!

I no longer keep an eye on the time, but at 7.5 months, DS still feeds throughout the night. He's right beside me though so it's no trouble. He's growing incredibly quickly and learning tons of new skills, so I'm guessing he really needs all that nourishment overnight!

I can hear my LO fuss for quite sometime before he actually wakes up. I will often scoop him up for his middle of the night feed before he fully wakes up. Last night I tried to see if maybe I just let him be, perhaps he would just sleep until morning. I just couldn't do it. I waited 30 minutes and he was so loud. I just wanted him to be satisfied and move on with our night. Lol.

So did you always wait for baby to wake up? At what age did baby give up that 3-5 AM feeding?
