@Mae: totally agree with everything you have said. I didn't get a chance to watch but hopefully it was less of a circus act than the previous debates have been. It's too bad there are so many distractions in the party. Any potentially viable candidates are getting lost in the shuffle.

@Mae: exactly. I'm a democrat, but have voted republican as well in the past. I'm a hilary supporter (by default) because she's the only moderate out there who stands a chance. This breed of republican is something I simply can't get behind. And it's particularly dangerous given that the house and senate are controlled by republicans. So a right wing republican as president would have the potential to really push through some ideas I don't believe in and that I think could be really bad for our country and its position globally.

@Applesandbananas: I watched a bit of it. I think that Marco Rubio actually sounds intelligent, answers the question, and knows what he's talking about (versus the others), but I sure hope a Democrat wins in the end. : )

@Mae: I agree with you but my MIL said she can't stand Hilary because of what happened in Benghazi. She also mentioned hiding of info (email scandal?). Also, she also mentioned Hilary's healthcare decisions. My MIL was in the healthcare industry. She and her husband (and DH's family) knows I'm a democrat but feels the need rant about democrats in front of me. I just sit there and wait and hope the venting to end. I don't even bother engaging them.

ETA: It appears that I do agree with Hilary and Sanders by a little less. I'm still undecided, though.

@Mae: "pandering to the lowest common denominator"..YES. That is what infuriates me. I hate all this trying to rile up the base crap. And I wish they would just leave the preaching to the preachers. On the democrat side, I guess part of my perception is living in California and part is thinking about it my circle has become more extreme left (or right but I know way more democrats.) I end up getting lectured by pretty much everyone on the occasion I talk politics with anyone which isn't so common. Blah.

@Pirouette: I know. I really really really wish Hilary would not run. I feel like maybe she thinks she will win just because the Republicans are so ridiculous? But SO many democrats hate her too. She's doing such a disservice to the party because her running has just sucked all the air out of every other candidates' sails. Except Bernie. Who I love. But I recognize would not really be elected in this political climate in America. We need a moderate democrat that people can actually respect. Or hell, even a moderate republican. I didn't agree with Bush 1, but I respected one. I thought Bush 2 was a moron, but he at least seemed like a nice person and genuine in his beliefs. I just don't even know what to do about the line-up currently making the rounds. I keep hoping some dark horse candidate will rise from the ashes of this dumpster fire and just take stage and wow everyone.

@Mae: "Because the democrats seem unelectable and the republicans seem terrifyingly absurd, even by political standards." THIS. I agree a lot of people hate Hilary for reasons that have nothing to do with her viewpoints. If either side put together a moderate, likable candidate, he or she would have my immediate vote! I expect high voter turnout for the primaries but not sure about the general.

@2littlepumpkins: It's just a scary political world out there right now IMO. I think it is true that Bernie Sanders is an "extreme" democratic candidate (in the sense that he is far left), but otherwise I don't really see the democrats being more extreme than in years past. Obama and Hilary may have lofty leftist ideals (sorta) but both are pragmatists that have/will work with the other side to accomplish things. Similarly democrats in congress, to at least some extent, have attempted to work with republicans to accomplish SOMETHING. On the other hand, you have increasingly extreme (and I don't even think extreme right-- more extreme religious and bigoted, completely unrelated to actual conservative financial values) republican candidates in a race to see who can be the most hateful and extreme. And then you have congressional republicans who just refuse to work with democrats at all because they too are pandering to the lowest common denominator in their constituencies. I have republican friends. I understand the traditional republican viewpoints. I don't agree with a lot of them, but I understand why others do. But what we're seeing on the right right now is not republicanism, it is something else entirely. And it's scary. And that is made more scary by the fact that a huge percentage of the country hates Hilary (for reasons far beyond her politics I think) and Bernie is unelectable because he's too far left. I have literally no idea what the hell is going to happen with this election. Because the democrats seem unelectable and the republicans seem terrifyingly absurd, even by political standards. I'm expecting possibly record low turnout at the polls in 2016 because I don't know many people who are really EXCITED about the candidates.

@Mae: dh was saying in 2009 the GOP had decided to go more moderate, but I guess both parties have become more extreme. I don't really fit in to either but I registered as a republican because in California I know my state will vote democrat in the general..I just can only hope enough of us can vote in the primary to get something together better than Hillary Clinton. I'm sure this is looked down on in politics but whatever.

@lawbee11: agreed on all points.

I watched. Rubio is the best debater, though Paul is pretty good as well. As for actual viewpoints and qualifications, I don't think any of them would make a good president.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: "Rubio is my kind of guy- frank and assure of his point of view. I just don't agree with most of what he believes." HAHA this exactly. I also find it problematic that he misses so many senate votes, like either he doesn't care enough to show up or he just doesn't want to be held accountable for a position that might hurt him in his candidacy.

No. I don't think it is good for my anxiety levels. I am so confused by what is happening in the republican party. I'm a democrat, but I don't really feel like any of the republican candidates are real republicans. They're just... scary. I wish there was one I could at least respect, even if I disagree with.

I watched and I agree with @Mrs. Lemon-Lime: on all counts about Graham, Rubio, and Jeb (eta except I share some beliefs, not all)! I'm a moderate (at least according to what I think a moderate is, and according to isidewith)

I am disgusted with the people who were cheering Trump on. I know others may disagree but dh & I thought Trump sounded like a 13 year old in his exchanges with Jeb Bush. I saw Bill O'Reilly this morning (I literally watch all MSNBC, CNN, and Fox before I judge most things, don't judge! Lol.) and he was talking about Trump saying that he isn't really going to try to do all these outrageous things, he's just telling people what they want to hear, and I tend to think that way too.. and I get that people are angry.. but it's like how you don't grocery shop while hungry.. don't make such an important decision on pure emotion. I'm really frustrated with his supporters. I really don't want Hillary Clinton as president but I've seen fb shares from Trump and the comments section is absolutely frustrating to read for me.

I'm a democrat but I try to watch all of the debates, so I watched. It was sort of a clusterfuck. So much arguing and talking over one another. I felt bad for Jeb Bush after a few of Trump's comments towards him. I'm really trying to like/tolerate one of them just in case we end up with him/her as President, but so far I just don't really like any of them.

Did you hear this gem in Chris Christie's opening statement when talking about the Los Angeles School District closure?

“Think about the mothers who will take those children tomorrow morning to the bus stop wondering whether their children will arrive back on that bus safe and sound. Think about the fathers of Los Angeles, who tomorrow will head off to work and wonder about the safety of their wives and their children."
