@daniellemybelle: Surprisingly, I don't think it ever phased my boobaholic. She would nurse for an hour if I let her. But she transitioned fine. She was used to bottles during the day at day care, so it made that easier on the weekends when I started weaning. But she never went for the boob when I gave a bottle.

Give solids after nursing/bottle. We started with solids around 5.5 months. She would get a bottle around 4/430 at day care, would eat dinner at 530, and then nursed/bottle at 630. Some nights if we were stuck in traffic, I would skip solids and just nurse/bottle. Her main source of food and nutrition is BM/formula so you don't want to offer solids before so they fill up on solids.

@Smurfette: Thanks for sharing that! One a week sounds like a good gradual way to do it. We are at 5 daytime feedings right now & I am hoping by 6 months she will be down to just one MOTN feeding.

How did your LO react? Do you feel like she noticed or missed it? Even though S prefers the bottle I think not nursing before bed especially will throw her off.

And how did it work with solids? Did you feed her the same amount regardless of the fact that you were introducing solids? I have often heard to nurse before offering solids to "take the edge off" but then I have heard of moms nursing after solids... How did you do it? Did you nurse or give a bottle?

I weaned at 6 months because that was my goal. No supply issues but I was over pumping, and it was never a bonding thing for me. I started by cutting a pumping/nursing a week. We were at 5 a day then, she was STTN when we finished weaning the first week. I started with the day time. 3pm, then noon, then 9am. Then I nursed two weeks just morning and night. Then I just didnt nurse in the morning. I was a little sore for two days but as bad as I was expecting. Then after a week, I started cutting out the night. Over a week, I just cut back nursing time on each boob. Then gave a bottle. The last night I did a min on each side. Then the next night nothing. The following night I hurt a little but not bad at all. Couple weeks later I had some leaking but it seemed to do it after we had sex really.

I have low supply & we supplement with formula. It comes & goes but LO also has a pretty strong preference for the bottle, at least when she's hungry. She will comfort nurse at night but we are sleep training soon so I imagine that will be a thing of the past for the most part. During the day it can be hard to get her to nurse without fussing. My goal has always been 6 months & I think we may switch to formula then. Breastfeeding has been a bittersweet struggle & I am sad to think of weaning but also ready to move on from what has been a very trying challenge.

Anyway, if you weaned early, what did you do? How did it work with introducing solids? I want to try to keep a morning & evening session at first but I don't know if my supply will cooperate.
