i was given a lecture by my RE regarding caffeine so i skipped it completely after drinking 3oz a day for the first 6 weeks or so.

I avoided caffeine during the first trimester, but then my midwife told me it was safe to drink the equivalent of a venti Starbucks every day. I never went so far to drink that much but definitely enjoyed a cup or two each day after that!

@illumina: oh no, not at all, i like to be informed about what's going into my body :) i tried to google it a little and couldn't get a clear answer on it, but i'm definitely going to investigate it a bit further. i won't give it up, but may drink it less until i can find a clear answer!

I quit cold turkey in my first trimester, even though my OB told me I could still drink up to 200mg of caffeine and that she'd still drink her daily coffee. I'm paranoid though and didn't want to do anything that would "always make me wonder" God forbid anything happened. Second trimester and have been drinking black tea every weekend morning, and an occasional black tea during work week. And Coke now and then (for shame! lol)

Before I got pregnant I was a 5-6 cup daily coffee drinker....I blame the keurig. I quit coffee completely during my pregnancy. One, because I couldn't stomach the smell of it when I had morning sickness. Two, I feel great not having to drink it now. I was slightly obsessed with it so now that I've broke my habit I'm not sure ill start again. But, it has been smelling nice lately..... I'll prob enjoy a cup after delivery!

@Foodnerd81: @karma: I read a couple of articles around a link between decaff and heart disease.

Luckily though, I've been drinking Newman's Own Organic Decaf (like @arden) during my third tri and it sounds like it's not as bad.

It's super gross to me right now. Before I even knew I was pregnant I hadn't drank coffee for a couple days because the taste was blech. Last pregnancy I avoided it most of the first and second trimesters and then in the 3rd would have sips of my husband's. I did drink chocolate milk and have caffeine from there. Caffeine gives me the jitters so I get worried that it effects me so that I feel better backing off while pregnant.

I have about 2-3 cups per week. Sometimes I just don't feel like having any. I had maybe 3 cups in the whole first trimester, and then relaxed a but after that. I am regularly a 2 cup per day kinda gal.

You're allowed like 300mg of caffeine a day so if you want your daily cup of joe, go for it! I've started drinking decaf when I'm craving coffee. Not quite the same, but full fledged coffee gives me a headache so decaf it is!

@Meridian: Isn't that funny about coffee? Apparently the longer they roast it, the most caffeine boils out (or whatever). So the darker/more intense roasts actually have less!

I was having one cup a day (before my MC)... there was no way I could survive without it! My doctor approved it and it looked like many online resources concurred.

I did look into the various blends to see what had less caffeine. I previously thought that a "light" roast meant that it had less caffeine... NOT the case! Turns out that "dark" roast is not as caffeinated. Who knew...? I also avoided "bold" roasts.

When I was pregnant during the winter, I drank hot chocolate for the smallest caffeine fix. During the summer, I drank iced chai lattes. I think I drink even less caffeine breastfeeding now. I can't wait to drink my cup of black tea again, though I want to get pregnant with LO #2 soon after LO #1's birthday, so no dice there.
