NavyBaby did! My midwife wasn't even phased by it and just clamped and cut before the rest of his body even delivered.

yes, and it was so freaking scary. during my entire labor, his heart kept decelerating and even one point they couldn't find it. it was so stressful. later we found out it was due to the cord being around his neck.

I didn't know until after I delivered, but yes it was. During my last set of pushes, after her head was out the doctor said very sternly "Don't push." I thought that was normal since the nurse was suctioning her, and he was doing something also, I just couldn't see what (I assume that was when he was unwrapping the cord from her neck). Then he gave me the ok to push the last time, and she was perfectly fine. It wasn't until later when my mom told me that I found out the cord had been around her neck, and I'm really glad I didn't know until after. I probably would have totally freaked!

My friend's baby had a cord wrapped around his neck. He was tiny about 5 pounds and i think the doctors said he had the cord wrapped around his neck for a long time. I know they did see the dr because she got to full term. He does have a hyper-thyroid issue where they have to monitor his weight and he has mild hearing loss. I'm not sure if the cord was the cause or if it wasn't.. My friends did consider having genetic testing for the second baby. Well they just had another child without genetic testing and the baby is completely healthy.

I, too, am worried about this when I get pregnant. But it is reassuring that some of you had it and are completely normal.

Yep & so did DS when he was born. It's rarely an issue though so I never worried about it. Alot of moms think it attributes to fetal distress or drop in headrate but from my understanding it's very common for baby's heart rate to drop some during contractions when getting close to delivery & in the pushing stage... Having nothing to do with cord placement.

My MW told me she's delivered some that it was tight enough she had to "flip" the baby out of the canal to deliver it (kinda hard to explain).... Still not usually an issue to worry about.

I had high fluid levels toward the end of my pregnancy, and my fear was that it was due to the cord around the neck. They couldnt tell by u/s, but dismissed my fears. I had a scheduled c-section, and the cord was around her neck 3 times and up near the placenta. She'd never have been able to descend at all. She was ok =o)

@Andrea: That’s why I figured that I’d never heard of people finding out that way. The only people who I’ve heard of having U/S that late are having them for other issues….cord flow, pre-e, etc.

This is probably a totally dumb thing to ask but…couldn’t doctors tell whether or not the cord was wrapped around the baby’s neck in an U/S? I know that they don’t normally do U/S that late (unless there are other issues) but does the size of the baby block them from seeing that or something? I’ve never heard of anyone finding out a cord being wrapped around a baby’s neck via U/S and I’ve always been curious as to whether it’s even possible…

BUT.... I know I was born with the cord around my neck, and I was born healthy with a natural delivery.

My son's cord was around his neck. It caused some scary heart rate decelerations during the pushing phase. They slipped it off of his neck as he was coming out though. The more I mention it to people the more I find how common it is, although the statistic I'd heard was 25% of babies, with only 10% of THOSE being an issue. Don't stress, it's nothing you can control, and it will be dealt with when/if it happens!

DH's was. That's why he's an emergency c-section baby. They were in such a rush to get him out that they cut what they thought was his butt when they were going in. But it was actually his face. I like to call him butt face for this reason.

I've read that 30% of babies are born with a nuchal cord, yet most are born perfectly healthy. I'm curious to hear from Moms with a healthy baby born with their cord wrapped around it's neck or body.

It's been my fear and I'm looking for some reassurance.
