Update (cause you all care): I did some more serious oiling and scrubbing with the brush and combing out with the tiny comb, then used the mustela foaming shampoo, let it sit on her hair for several minutes while I washed her, rinsed well and combed out any extra flakes. She looks so much better and doesn't seem to have lost too much hair. Hoping it stays away!

@2PeasinaPod: that's a good point. I have been using the bath water when I bathe the two of them together. If I'm only washing the baby it's in the sink with clean water. I'll be more aware of it and try to do a final rinse with clean water.

@Foodnerd81: Another simple tip that may or may not help improve her cradle cap is to always rinse with clean water after you've washed her hair. If you're rinsing with the soapy water from her bath, it's leaving residue on her scalp and drying it out making the cradle cap continue.

@Foodnerd81: Sorry for the late response, but yes, it was that one! It was crazy, we only had to use it maybe 3 times over the course of a week, and her cradle cap was completely gone and never came back (we did continue to use the mustela foam shampoo like every other wash for some time).

We are still battling cradle cap, and LO is almost 10 months old.....she was born with a good amount of hair, then it all fell out. But is now coming in pretty thick. My Ped thinks it might just be dry scalp....and suggested I use Head and Shoulders on her....I'm not too fond of that idea though...I might try the Mustella that others have suggested. I've tried a lot of natural things, all of the oils, and nothing is working! :-( I hate seeing all of these flakes in her hair constantly...

We used the mustela newborn foaming shampoo. It was amaaaazing at getting off cradle cap. And he had a moderate amount of hair and none of it came out because of it.

@Foodnerd81: we used one very similar to this
he had an awesome bald spot on the back of his head forever because of the cradle cap

I used mustela as well, however I found it very drying (he has eczema as well) so we would lotion his head in between baths, it really helped!

DD1 had ridiculous cradle cap, along with an insane amount of hair, and when we tried to get rid of the cradle cap, hair usually came off with it, although since she had so much hair, it didn't really matter...

I actually just realised the other day that DD1 still has a lot of cradle cap at 3.5 yrs old! We eventually gave up on it as she had so much thick hair, it was a nightmare trying to get rid of it all, and we thought it would just go away on its own......apparently not. Hmm. The good thing is you can't see it unless you're digging through her hair looking for it, but still, we should probably get on that.....

@catlady: this one? That looks better than the regular soft baby brush I've been using- and easier to clean.

@Foodnerd81: I think it was $18 and I used it once, but that was enough to get rid of it. I had spent three weeks trying coconut oil, then olive oil, baby oil, dandruff shampoo. It was so so worth it. I almost hope #3 gets cradle cap so I can use that miracle stuff again.

I may have to look at that. We have also tried a bit of selsum blue (rubbed it in at dinner and then washed out). But it just comes back.

My middle had the worst cradle cap. Whole hunks would peel off like nickel sized areas taking hair with it. It was disgusting. Coconut oil wouldn't touch it.

I bought the Mustela cradle cap lotion and shampoo and it was gone the next day.

I think if I had stuck it out with the "natural" solution she would have lost a lot more hair.

Did your LO lose a lot of hair when they had cradle cap? G has probably moderate cradle cap so nice been rubbing in so coconut oil, letting it sit, the gently scrubbing with her baby brush and combing with the fine tooth comb. Tons of flakes are coming off but her hair is combing off with them. My first baby was bald until she was a year and a half so I was enjoying having one baby with hair. Wondering if there's any chance I can improve the cradle cap without brushing off all her hair.

Also any extra tips appreciated. I feel like every time I brush or comb it, for as many flakes as I get out, there are just as many new ones waiting. I've been using regular shampoo/ baby wash after but should probably get an actual baby shampoo.

(Yes I know it's harmless but it's yucky. :silly: )
