nope he slept the same amount compared to when he was breastfed. thy saw formula is suppose to last longer due to digesting more slowly, but hasnt held true for us at all.

My lo started formula at a week old and she slept 12 hours at 2 1/2 months. Of course I don't know what would have happened if she were breastfed.

We supplement with formula if I haven't pumped enough and we haven't noticed a difference. Actually, he's been refusing to take more than 2-3 oz before bed lately and he's been sleeping better than ever! (Hopefully I didn't jinx us!)

No difference. She is a year old, but since I stopped pumping at work, I wanted to make sure she got enough milk before bed (since she is often too tired for dinner). We started with formula and she sleeps exactly the same!

Not sure, really, though LO has slept through the night from about 2.5 months, which is when she started being fed formula only. Anecdotally, I am in a mommy group of about 40 women and I'm one of a tiny handful that formula feeds. From talking with everyone, it also seems that I am one of the very few whose baby naps consistently and sleeps through the night (the LOs are between 3 and 4 months old now). It could be luck, but seems like it might be a factor?

If it is the formula, I figure I just need to enjoy it since my next will (hopefully) be breastfed and it might be a completely different situation.

I don't have experience with the switch but my daughter has always been FF and she started sleeping 7 hours at 2 weeks old.

I think it probably just depends on the baby.

It could be the age? I think my lo is a week or 2 younger than yours, and she just started sleeping through the night. Right now she only takes pumped milk...but i havevheard that sleeping better on formula theory and cant say i didnt consider blending!

I gave DS formula 1-2 times a week but mostly breastfed him other than that. He didn't sleep longer when he would drink formula. DD is ebf and has slept 11-12 hours each night from 7 weeks old but I think she just loves her sleep.

DS didn't really sleep any better than DD does now. He was ff and she is ebf. She does go through more night waking phases than he did though but that has more to do with her not getting full feedings during the day so she makes up for them at night.

It's been awhile but I did read one study that showed ebf moms got just as much rest if not more rest than ff moms.... it had to do with many ebf moms will nurse sidelying, etc.

Initially I thought so, but it hasn't been consistent for us. These days at almost 9 months and after a lot of experimenting, it doesn't seem to make a ding dong difference :(

We tried supplementing with formula a couple weeks ago. Before putting him to bed, I gave him a bottle of 50/50 formula and breastmilk (he nursed the rest of the day). It didn't help him sleep longer any night we tried - in fact he woke up an hour earlier a couple nights than he normally does. Maybe I would need to switch him to 50/50 for all feedings during the day to see a change but I feel it's a myth. Anyways we stopped supplementing after a week since we didn't see a change and I'm planning to talk to his doctor more in a couple weeks at his 4 month well visit.

I know there is no scientific data that babies who take formula sleep longer/better....and that night waking is not related to hunger.....but did your baby sleep better once you started formula? I feel like anecdotally I have heard that so many babies slept better once on formula.

We started formula on Sunday for medical reasons and now my baby gets 50/50. Since Sunday he started sleeping through the night (7 hrs, then 8 hrs, then 9 hrs, then 9.5). Coincidence? Hmm. He's 4 months.
