@heartonastring: My LO also started doing this recently at 4 months. She'd start fussing on the boob so I swaddled her, put in her paci and put her down (just.. put her down, no rocking or anything) and she fell right asleep.

Similar thing has happened with my younger (14 weeks) LO. She used to have to be completely asleep to be put down, but now she'll have her eyes closed but be all squirmy and can't settle until I actually put her down in the pnp. Then she wiggles around for a few minutes and then falls asleep. This is at night of course, daytime naps are another story altogether. Maybe it's just a natural progression?

@heartonastring: That definitely sounds like a good thing! I am sometimes amazed at how awake M (11 months) will seem and then she will put herself to sleep. Sometimes not, of course. I still like to sit with her and sing to her for a few minuets, but occasionally she'll be squirming in my arms and I can tell I am waking her up more than soothing her. When that happens I'll just put her in her crib and walk away.

@heartonastring: yea...my LO is starting to get like that. we used to rock him to sleep but lately, he gets all squirmy and "reaches" for his bed...so we just lay him in the crib and he falls asleep...

i just wanna hold/cuddle with him as long as i can until he no longer wants to be held...just didn't think it would happen so soon...hehe

I actually had the same experience last night. i was feeding E and she was getting crabby and refusing her bottle, pushing it away, fussing, etc. So i put her into her sleep suit and laid her down and stuck her paci in. She turned her head and went right to sleep!

"leave me alone, momma, i wanna snooze!" ;)

So DH does bedtime and he puts DD down drowsy but awake. She puts herself to sleep and generally sleeps 11-12 hours at night, sometimes with one wake up to eat, quite often not.

For naps, I nurse her to drowsy and put her down. She usually takes a 1.5-2 hour nap in both the morning and afternoon, and then a 30-ish minute catnap in the late afternoon to carry her through to bed time. I keep her awake time to 90 minutes.

The last couple days she's shown signs of tiredness after two hours (so I'm thinking of extending her awake time - she's 4.5 months old), but when I try to nurse her to drowsy she basically just refuses. Today, after going through this for a couple hours this morning and being really frustrated, I just put her down and walked away. I fully expected her to start crying and I planned to come back in at that point. Well, she didn't cry at all and when I looked at the monitor after about 10 minutes she was sound asleep.

Do you think it's possible that she doesn't want me to put her to sleep anymore and wants to do it herself? Not that that would be a bad thing!Just trying to crack the code!

Just as you think you've gotten into a good routine these babies have to throw you a curveball!
