We didn't really have to adjust our bedtime routine, since DS pretty much always went down at 7:30 for the night before DD's (4 yr) bed time at 8:30. However, dinner time has definitely suffered since DS gets hungry much earlier than DD. The 2 hour between getting home from work to the first bed time has been rough ever since DS has been born! We just try to roll with it. Also, DS doesn't get much story time yet, since I'm still trying to get dinner on the table for the rest of us when it's his bed time. I need to get a better system!

You will find something that works for you, good luck!

At first it was easy for DS to just tag along during DD's bedtime routine. I'd feed him while reading to her and he'd be out by the end of the book. At around 4/5 months, though, it became a lot harder as DS became more aware of what was going on and that's when we started putting the kids to bed separately. DS also starting going down earlier than DD so up until now (Ds is 11 months), my husband and I switch who puts which kid to bed each night. I think DS will drop his nighttime bottle soon, and then we'll start putting the kids to bed together; hopefully that will happen within the next month.

So I think you're plan is totally realistic at first, and then might need some flexibility fir a while and then it will be possible again. :)

DS is 5, and LO is due any day.

DS and I have been reading a book together every night since pretty much birth. Now that he's in kindergarten, he's the one doing the reading, which is pretty cool.

I totally plan on having LO sit in with us during this time. Since ds does most of his bedtime routine himself (pj's, teeth, bath), it's the only part of bedtime that I actively participate in. I thought it would be a nice way for some sibling bonding and just get LO interested and used to books from the start.

I'm hoping my expectations with this are a little realistic, lol. I'm also hoping that it'll set her up for a good bedtime routine, too.

Did anything change for your older child's bedtime routine after LO #2 showed up? How did you incorporate the younger one in the routine?
