DD1 got a rash, fever and clumsiness about a week after receiving the shot. It ran its course and all turned out just fine!

I wouldn't call it a reaction strong enough not to keep vaccinating if that's what you mean.

could be a million things

I wouldn't rule out just a run of the mill virus. My LO just had pink cheeks and a low grade fever that kept her out of daycare last week. She was not bothered by it at all. I hope your LO gets better soon.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: It is chicken pox. I thought she might be having a reaction from that, but the rash lasted for maybe six hours and it was just on her cheek. It was super red and not bumpy at all. They specifically told us to look out for a delayed reaction to the MMR.

@avivoca: varicella is chicken pox, right?

I vaguely remember Chloe getting a rash and fever from that, and so did I.

I never had cpox as a kid so I had to get the vaccine when she did so I didn't catch it as an adult!

@lamariniere: Thanks for chiming in! H woke up with her fever 4 days after her shot and had a red cheek. She's not miserable, but this morning she was definitely clingy. Poor things!

My LO seemed to, but it was within 3-4 days, so I'm not sure if it was an actual reaction or something else. She had a fever for about 36 hours and then had a minor red bumpy rash that lasted about 2 days. She was miserable.

Yes, LO1 spiked a very high fever 7 days after his shot. No other symptoms (besides sluggishness from the fever). Took him to the doctor and they said it was from the shot.

@blackbird: @sorrycharlie: Normally, I'd think the same thing, but she usually gets a small fever from her shots, which is why I wasn't surprised when she got this one and was acting normally.

I was thinking the same as @blackbird: - O just had a fever, followed by a cold (nose and cough). As far as I can remember she didn't have a reaction to MMR and hers was in January, too.

No. And honestly, this time of year, i would just assume it was some generic virus. Seems like E's got a fever every few weeks!

H received her MMR and Varicella vaccines last Wednesday at her 15 month well-visit. The nurse told us that the reaction to MMR is usually delayed anywhere from 6-14 days, so if she gets a fever in that time frame, it's probably a reaction. So when she woke up from her nap yesterday with a fever, I wasn't surprised and we gave her Tylenol. Her fever hasn't gotten above 100.6 and she's in good spirits, just warm.

We took her to school this morning because her underarm temp was 98.6, and our daycare adds a degree to underarm temps, which still put her well under their cutoff temp of 101. We gave her Motrin and let them know that she had her MMR vaccine a week ago and she's most likely having a reaction. They pretty much told us that we will have to come and get her early, but they'll giver her Tylenol while they are waiting on us. Another kid in her class has a fever, and another one had the same face rash that H had yesterday (they are a week apart and both had their well visits last week).

Did your child have a reaction to the MMR/Varicella vaccines? How long did it last for you? I'm wondering if I'm going to have to tap into my sick time so early in the year for a reaction to a vaccine that is known to have high reaction rates (as many as 1 in 6 get a fever from the shot) just because she has a low-grade fever.
