I had it done at 40+2 and 40+5 but was induced the next day. It was uncomfortable but not that painful. The second time did have some bloody show and then very irregular contractions that evening but they didnt go anywhere.
it did work for one of my girlfriends though...

Ouch. It sounds like membrane stripping is both ineffective and painful! :(

I found my post from 8 months ago on WB about mine..
I had my membranes stripped
and it didn't hurt. I didn't know she did it actually, she said it wasn't really on purpose but my cervix was high and she "moved" it and stripped them at the same time. I went from a 1 last week to a 3 today :)

So if your Dr. suggest that, don't be afraid it's no worse then being checked.

then I replied to someone
I couldn't tell she was doing it while checking me I thought she was just having a hard time finding my cervix.

But it didn't work. I was induced one day after my due date. I believe I had gone in the Thursday before my DD, and then was induced the following Tuesday.

I just had mine done on Monday and nothing has happened :( i was dialated to about 1 cm. Maybe it has made progress but nothing noticeable. I went in with the idea that it was an awful procedure and I hate to say it but it was. Probably doesnt help to go in nervous. It is uncomfortable but definitely doable and if it gets things going then its def worth it!

I did with my second, but I was already in early labor. It didn't hurt any more then a normal cervical check and it did make my contractions come faster for a while, but then they slowed down and picked back up on their own.

the second time, I was already 4 cm dilated.
no dice.
i ended up getting induced.

edit: it was not painful for me.

With DD, my doctor stripped my membranes at 37 and 38 weeks; I went into labor the day of my 39 weeks appointment, when she would've done it again.

I had my membranes stripped by midwife in the hospital - I was 5 cm dilated already and was contracting every 8-10 minutes, but we wanted the contractions to pick up/labor to continue to progress. So she stripped them and BAM I started contracting every 3-5 minutes...painfully.

I asked at my 38 week appt but I wasn't dialated at all so they couldn't :-(. Then at my 39 week I was dialated to 1cm but he said he actually couldn't reach to do it.
My water broke on its own at 39w6d

I asked my doctor to strip mine at 38+6. I was dilated 4cm at that point and 90% effaced I think. So she stripped my membranes and stretched my cervix to 5cm, then she decided I needed to just head on over to labor and delivery. It was actually pretty uncomfortable for me and the checks never bothered me at all. I'm not sure if it was the stripping or the stretching that was painful though.

Anyways I'm not much help I guess...

I have my 39w5d appt on Thursday. I'm considering asking if they will strip my membranes if at least something has changed down there. Anyone else had this done? How long afterwards did you go into labor or did you have to be induced anyways?
