@Mrs Green Grass: my dog goes CRAZY for Sophie...every time the baby I watch squeaks it he loses it. We have to watch him closely, or put Sophie up until he calms down. My cousin's dog is also obsessed with Sophie...I think it's just the squeaking.

He's never really cared about other toys the baby has, unless the baby throws them. Then he thinks it's a game, ha!

My dog has demolished every toy we've bought her except the black kong, yet doesn't touch LOs toys. We didn't consciously train her not to, she just kinda knew.

Mostly, but she did eat Sophie. My dog destroys toys but seems to know she's not allowed to have lo's stuff. We are pretty careful to keep it away from her when we are gone.

My dog is actually very good at differentiating between her toys and the baby's... the baby, not so much. My LO is always taking the dog's toys and even plays tug-of-war with the dog (which freaks me out, but I supervise very carefully when I see this happening - I have my hand over the toy - between the two of them at all times.... LO laughs her head on while the dog (10 lb) jerks her around).

Our dog is pretty good with the leave it command.... but i could see how sophie would make a pretty appetizing treat. I think he'll be fine when were home to correct him but we'll see how he does when we leave him all day when we're back at work. The other day i came home to find a pile of ruffles chewed off our couch pillows.

My dog ALWAYS destroyed toys I bought for him as well prior to LO, but somehow he knows LO's toys aren't his and leaves them alone, minus a few episodes. He has probably only gotten one or two toys and done damage (LO is 13 months) Other than that he leaves them be, even when we leave him loose at home alone with toys all over the floor. He was particularly excited about a squeaky teething toy that MIL gave him for Christmas though and wouldn't take "no" for an answer on that one. We ended up keeping it in the diaper bag and only using it away from home

My dogs are VERY interested in the baby toys, but we have been (so far) successful in keeping them away from them. They are especially interested in Sophie the giraffe because she squeaks..

@grizz: hilarious! there is often a collection of my own socks hidden under the bed, so babies socks will be very tempting to the dog!

the dogs have been good about not getting into LO's toys. when i first brought them out they were curious but i gave them the "leave it" command and surprisingly they haven't needed reminding.

LO, on the other hand, totally goes for the most disgusting chew toys that belong to the dogs.

Sort of. Every time we get a new toy the dogs are interested but we just tell them no and they usually leave it alone. However DS has one toy that one of my dogs loves. I was in the other room and I heard a noise and I walked out and she was digging through his toy basket and grabbed that toy. I thought it was kind of hilarious but I told her no and took it away and washed it.

My dog doesn't really like toys. If she's excited then she might try to get at a stuffed animal, but it's rare and she'll stop right away when we say no. Our last dog (who passed when LO was a little under two) was the same way. LO also seems to know the difference between her toys and the dogs toys, and she will try to give our pup doggy toys.

I'm at the stage where I'm looking at purchasing all of the newborn accessories, and I'm loving all of the cute teething toys, stuffed animals, etc. Problem is, they look a lot like my dogs toys which are immediately destroyed. haha, I know this will be a problem. Do your dogs steal the baby toys?
