@LemonLong: my high school was similar. I took a lot of AP classes, and my senior year I needed a "chill out" class so I took gourmet foods, lol.

It was an elective in junior high, but I was in band so I never got to take it.

In high school there were separate classes for home-EC type curriculum - Foods I and II, Sewing I and II, Consumer Finance, Parenting, Interior Design, Shop, Car Mechanics, etc.

I went to a very large public high school.

It was called family and consumer science snd there were many different courses. I took two, one called parenting which let you take the baby robot home, and another called independent living which focused on budgeting, meal planning, cooking, using checking and savings accounts. I think that class should be required for everyone, honestly.

In middle school, we did. Grade 7 was cooking and grade 8 was sewing. There was a "Foods and Nutrition" class offered for a year or two when I was in HS, but apparently it was a joke.

It was called Family & Consumer Sciences, and I was a big part of it. There was a club attached, FCCLA (Family Career and Community Leaders of America used to be FHA), which I was a very active member in, including being a the state VP my senior year of HS. Fond memories!

In high school we had elective classes like Fashion, textiles (knitting, crocheting, quilting, etc) interior decorating, and cooking. My high school had a big focus on vocational training so you could also take courses like welding, automotives, accounting, and entrepreneurship where you had to open your own business for the semester. You could also get credit for taking a job/internship and during the last period you could leave school to go to work.

Not high school. In 8th grade we took home ec. I was so excited because I saw how everyone made those cute stuffed animals. Well our teacher was out the entire time I was in home ec(it was half a year, and the other half we took wood shop) so we had a substitue. We did nothing! I was so bummed
