I remember the 2 naps to 1 transition being a long one for us, too. It's bc DD dropped the afternoon nap first, and it was a very slow process moving the morning nap into the afternoon. Hang in there!

@scg00387: It got better. It took really 2 months to transition to 1 nap - the first month was rough but I stuck with it and by 16 months it was better. Now, at 17 months he falls asleep relatively quickly (usually within 15 mins) and naps 1.5-2 hours, rarely longer, but it does happen. He also usually sleeps 11 hours overnight, which is an improvement from 10 (which is what he slept on 2 naps).

We are in this boat too, starting the transition since C is playing through nap 2 most days. I think we are going to stick with that though, cuz today's first attempt at just stretching him and giving him only one nap was DISASTER. Please tell me this will get better....ugh.

@winniebee: ugh, at 20 months J is down to one nap. sometimes it's in the morning, sometimes late afternoon. The late afternoon ones are awful! if he sleeps too late, he fights bedtime but we can't keep him up because he'll go from 7am to 3:40/4pm without a nap... it's frustrating!

@Mrs. Pen: ugh. T has at least gone from sleeping 10 or 10.5 to 11 overnight. I just don't get why he sucks at the one nap!!

I think unfortunately we're going through the same thing :(

His sleep is crap - night and naps. So I think it's time to transition but it's rough. He has gone from 12 solid hours of sleep at night to 10. And 3-4 hours of naps a day to 2 hours split into two naps. When we do one nap a day, it's still only a 1.5-2 hour nap and he is clingy and cranky when he wakes up.

bump!

i don't have any advice, but will follow for the future! LO is still on 2 lonnnngggg naps a day at almost 15 months. i've noticed that he seems to wake up half way through his second nap these days to cry (loud) a bit. if i ignore him he falls back asleep....

Following as we're in the same situation now. He took two awesome 1.5 hours naps a day until two weeks ago. I'm trying everything I can to get him to stay up until 11am (he still wakes up no later than 6:30am), but then he only naps 1.5 hours. He is beyond cranky by 6pm. I'm really hoping he starts sleeping in later or taking a longer nap soon. I miss the two nap schedule so much!

I'm trying to figure out why my 15 month old is a crappy napper on one nap. On 2 naps, he had good, predictable naps from 5 months - 13 months. Then he started showing all the signs of being ready for 1 nap. Except now that he's on one nap at least 50% of his naps are under 2 hours and he wakes up clingy and upset for at least an hour after the nap. I think we are beyond the point of no return with 2 naps. I've tried earlier naps and later naps and it doesn't seem to matter much. We've been on 1 nap for a month now and he is sleeping a little longer at night most nights, but the naps have not improved much.

Did this happen to anyone else? Did your LO eventually become a good 1 napper?
