DD is 21 months and currently only does 9-oz of whole milk a day. We are doing it out of a straw cup. She stopped drinking as much once we cut back her bottles but we supplement with yogurt and cheese to keep her calcium intake up.

Less. On bottles, he drank 25 oz a day at 12 months. He's drank less and less after we have eliminated each bottle. 17 months and he drinks 12-15 a day.

@banana: I know it. She's so easily distracted! I think I need to feed her in a dark closet or something

M drinks water out of a straw cup but I couldn't get her to do milk that way. I ended up going for a sippy and she's done better with that.

Yes! At daycare they have him back on track, but at home, he refuses cups {all 18 of them} and throws them. Good times.

@LuLu Mom: I figured M would be miserable with her reduced milk intake but she seems fine.

That being said I"m about to go pick her up from her sitter's and I"m afraid she's going to tell me she didn't drink anything all day!

@MrsF: glad to hear this, LO refuses to drink milk from her sippys (drinks water fine) she's just being stubborn. We went cold turkey today because we know she can do it and she's playing us! Daycare text and said she's done about 1/2 of what she normally does today :(

@MrsF: I'm afraid that will be our problem too! She loves to play so I'm scared that she won't drink her milk if I offer it to her in a straw cup!

Glad to see this thread! We're only 5 days into this transition (M is 13 months and we just went cold turkey from bottles to take & toss sippy). She hardly took anything at first (5 ounces the first day) but it's getting better and she's compensating with more solids including cheese and yogurt.

Right now our problem is that she drinks juuuust enough milk so that she's not starving and then she wants to run away and play.

Yes, my son's milk intake dropped significantly at first. He barely drank anything! But after about 3 weeks, it went back up. He used to drink about 18 ounces or so of formula. He's probably drinking about 15 ounces of milk now. But he also eats lots of cheese and yogurt daily.

@googly-eyes: Would you say she drinks half as much? My DD drinks 20-24 oz a day right now.

So far..yes. But she is getting better about it. We are still on 1 bottle a day which was the largest one though.

My DD is 15 months and we're just starting to transition off of bottles. She uses a straw cup really well (water during lunch and dinner) so I'm not concerned about her ability to use a cup. But I'm concerned that she won't drink as much milk now that we're transitioning off bottles.

How much milk was your LO drinking with bottles and how much milk with cups?
