Yep, she slowed down on nursing once she started food. At almost 11 months she's down to 3-4 nursing sessions a day. We're hoping to get to 2/day by 12 months when I return to work.

We started at 4 months and it never seemed to change b/c of solids.

He used to take 22-24 oz a day, then when we added solids it was a little solids plus the milk. Then we added more solid meals and it didn't impact the milk.

At 8.5 months he now eats more of everything, but I think it's because of his crawling. He has 3 solid meals (2 puree, 1 BLW, 1 snack probably totaling 7-8 oz of total food) and 25-30 oz a day.

Yes, LO started drinking less milk after solids were introduced, but not until she was eating 3 meals a day plus a snack. When we first started introducing solids there was no change in how much milk she drank.

My LO still takes as much milk. The only time he's feeds go down is when he's in pain from teething.

@banana: My LO hasn't started solids yet but my doctor told me that if I feel like LO is overeating, then I should stick with a slow flow nipple. I have. He no longer over eats and he no longer spits up half as much. You can try this if you haven't already.
But, since your lo is EBF, I'd just let her have as much as you can give. It is much better for them than the food anyways.
I am looking forward to my LO eating solids because he is FF (not by choice, sadly) so I just would like to replace or supplement all that formula with veggies!

Yes, at her 6 mo appointment she had gone from 28-30 oz a day to 24 oz. Our doc said we should try to feed her as much milk as we were feeding before solids. (My LO has always been in the 70-80th percentile so weight wasn't really a concern) Now we're lucky if she'll take 24. It's more like 20. I'm curious to see what her weight percentile is at her 9 month appointment.

@yoursilverlining: Sounds like my little girl! She drinks 30oz of bmilk and now she's eating 2-4 oz of solids a day. And sometimes she's still hungry! She's in the 75th percentile for weight and only 35th for height. She's growing sideways. =\

@banana: I think so. She's EBF, but gets one bottle of pumped milk a day. Her bottle got a bit bigger and her nursing sessions a bit longer. We spend the same amount of time nursing throughout the day, just distributed differently.

@banana: My LO drinks about 30oz. of formula per day too, and eats solids. She doesn't seem to be wanting much less formula than before the solids. She's a growing girl, I guess!! ;-)

@Weagle: Oh I see. So does she drink more per feeding now, since you're spreading them out a little more?

Nope. I think she drinks pretty much the same amount. Though, solids have helped us spread feeding out a little more.

@Mrsbells: My OB told me that we could probably feed her a little less bmilk because she was consuming so much already! But homegirl loves her milk and constantly wants more! sigh. Guess I"ll have to go on a powerpump marathon this weekend.

My doctor told us that she should still drink the same amount of breastmilk or formula, the solids shouldnt replace that

So far, no...but we are only on one meal a day, at dinner. She still nurses just as much as she did before we started solids.

I was hoping the same thing. If anything it seems like they are drinking more or at least the same. My kids don't take in a large quantity of solids though.

My daughter (6 months) is drinking 26-30 oz a day (she's a little porker) and I'm barely pumping enough to keep up! She started solids a few days ago and I'm hoping she'll drink a little less milk now. The ped said to try to aim for 24oz a day. We tried feeding her less milk but she's constantly hungry and rooting for more.

Did your LO's milk consumption decrease once you started solids?
