Yes she did, but no phototherapy was needed. No one tried to push formula on us at all. We were in hospital for 5 days anyway post c-section so she was clear by the time we left.

Noelle had it and had to go under the phototherapy lights in the hospital. Jaren's didn't kick in until the 4th-5th day when it usually peaks, and it was mild so he didn't have to do the lights.

Both had breastmilk jaundice too, so they looked jaundiced for the first 6 weeks!

Teeny bit. They didn't notice until right when we were leaving the hospital, and they said do some naked time in front of the window, so we would sit with the window open on the glider and rock. By the time we got to our first doctor's apt they said she was fine.

He was slightly jaundiced. His levels went up to the high intermediate risk zone and the lady ped that saw us in the hospital sent us home with formula and we had to go back to the ped the next day to get it checked again. I decided to wait and not give formula and I nursed him every 2 hours that whole day and night until our ped appt the next day. My milk came in that night and his levels were fine the next day. (I think still in intermediate zone) I made sure to see the ped in the practice that was more BFing friendly. Once he knew my milk came in, he wasn't worried at all.

ETA; I continued to nurse every 2 hours and I just made sure to watch that he wasn't turning more yellow.

Yes, and it really sucked. We were all set to leave the hospital for J's big homecoming when her results came back really high. We were discharged from maternity and admitted to peds. She had to be under the lights in an isolate. I was able to room in with her and nurse (they recommended every 1-2 hrs, all day and night). I didn't have to supplement though. They only allowed one parent to stay at a time, so my husband had to go home (45min away). It was rough! I was really sore and sleep deprived, and being there by myself I felt so lonely and isolated. Suddenly I had no help, no meds, etc. I wanted to hold my baby and couldn't. It was probably largely hormones, but I cried so much! Luckily we got to go home the next night. I don't know how NICU moms do it - those 2 extra days were so rough.

I was EBF (I'm sure my milk hadn't come in though) and she was like at the lowest levels that they had seen (no jaundice). I was really happy and no one ever offered formula at the hospital.

@Anagram: They didn't force formula. She had a good latch and it seemed like she was getting enough. All the nurses thought she was doing fine. It was after we got home that the situation changed.

Yes. He barely ate the first night & the LC who came in the morning said he'd likely be jaundiced and looked yellow to her. His levels weren't too bad and he hadn't lost much weight so they let us do therapy at home with a little booth. It took maybe 4 days for him to be cleared up. We visited a lab every am for bloodwork.

@Anagram: the LC who noticed not only helped me get him to breastfeed, but gave me a pump so I could have colostrum for him if they wanted to give formula. They didn't push giving formula in his case, so all is not lost in that regard!

Yes, it extended LO NICU time. He had to be under the phototherapy lights about 7 days. But he was a preemie, so I think this is common with preemies. He was born at 34 weeks.

I put no, but he actually was a little jaundiced in the beginning. We had to get his levels checked twice, but both times they weren't worrisome, and he lost 10% of his birth weight. We just had to be extra diligent about feeding him those first couple weeks, but that was it.

It was horrible having to go back to the hospital (and staying overnight) only a few days after she was born. She had to undergo phototherapy, and must have had 18 heel pricks, and 5 scalp pricks! :(

I honestly don't remember with G, but P had a little jaundice...

@Anagram: We were expecting it since it's a common side effect of the Vit K shot so no surprise for us. They did try & push formula but we refused... we did ultimately give in to give her a little for a completely different reason though (it was just a couple oz & didn't make any difference as her bili levels were already down).

Yup, DD was jaundiced and needed photo therapy. I'm East Asian and we have different blood types. The hospital highly recommended formula to flush out her system, so that's what we did. I think it was the main reason breast feeding didn't work out, but I'd make the same decision today.
