@Mrs. Jacks: glad to read you use ice cream! I haven't tried it yet, but is there something you recommend? My son drinks milk in the morning and eats some cheese and yogurt, but not consistently.

Today was the first day I gave Baby Y cow's milk. He drank a bit, but mostly took it into his mouth, and then let it dribble back out with a great big "WTF" look on his face! He did slightly better when I put it in a new sippy.

Hope he gets used to it ... I have no breast milk stashed, or I would mix it to ease him into it.

I am still transitioning DD by mixing her frozen breast milk with organic cows milk, but now she will drink "straight cow" although she doesn't chug it down like my milk

LO is 14mos in 5 days and trying to wean him off formula. right now we give him half formula/half whole milk in a bottle. he won't drink it room temp or cold so we still have to heat it up. eventually we have to stop giving the bottle too... sigh

My LO isn't a cows milk fan right now. Once in awhile she'll take a few steps but most of the time she refuses it. She likes yogurt and cheese though, loves cheese.

Lala never did drink milk. We tried transitioning by mixing breast milk and milk, but if there was even one drop of cow's milk, she would refuse and we'd have to waste the breast milk.

We do yogurt and ice cream and almond milk... so hopefully she's getting what she needs.

i transitioned charlie over a month by adding increasing amounts of milk to his formula. i didn't feel any need to rush, so he was still drinking some formula at 13 months.

I'm having a tough time, too. I'm trying to transition her to almond milk (she HATES soy milk) to eventually try to get her onto hemp milk. She takes a few sips then on the 4th sip, she gags. SIGH.

Thanks for the advice ladies! Lo drank more than 3/4ths of her sippy of milk during breakfast so I'm a lot less worried now. Hopefully that will continue throughout the day.... and if not now at least I have some things I can try!

I never liked milk as a child, my parents tried everything and I still never liked it, so not all children will like the taste of milk.

@artbee: are you using the same sippy as her water sippy? You could also try a different one. I thought DD would drink milk out of her water sippy, too, but it seemed to be ingrained in her that it was for water only.

I've heard that sometimes the sippy cup they use for water may have to be different than the sippy cup they use for milk.

We are going to try to go cold turkey on the bottles too in a few weeks when she turns one! We have been adding a bit of WCM to her bottles now to get her adjusted to it some.

When I transitioned my first baby from formula to milk, I started out by slowly mixing it in her formula in her bottle... Start with a formula/milk ratio like 75/25... then 50/50, 25/75, etc... Then once she's on 100% milk, you could work on weaning from the bottle to a sippy. Baby steps!

Be warned though too that you may have to go cold turkey with the bottle eventually... all babies are different, but there's nothing wrong with trying to wean slowly first IMO.

eta: so I think what I meant to write is, try transitioning her to milk first in the bottle and then work on going to a sippy/straw afterwards.

@Andrea: My LO will drink her formula cold sometimes, but normally it's room temp, so I didn't think it would be a huge deal. I figure I'll wait another day and if she's still not drinking anything we'll try a slower approach. The doctor said most babies like the taste of milk better than formula so it's usually not a problem..... but it doesn't seem to be the case here.

I didn't stop the bottle cold turkey because I felt like it would be too much change for her with the milk plus temperature change (we heated up her formula). So we did the switch in the bottle with me mixing warm formula plus cold whole milk in increasing proportions until it was all cold milk after a week. We also did that because DD had a history of milk protein intolerance so we were looking for allergies. At the end of the week, she was fine drinking cold milk out of the bottle. We waited a little bit before taking away the bottle and put her milk in a straw cup.

We just switched over to milk..... and it didn't go over as well as I thought. The doctor said to try stopping the bottle cold turkey, and I thought it would be fine because she's already been using the sippy for water since she turned 6 months so she has a pretty good hang of it. But for milk she only will take a few sips at a time and then push it away. We tried heating it up, but that was a no go too.

Do you think it's just because it's new or she doesn't like it? Any experience with this?
