My LO likes oatmeal but Not the boxed kind. I made oatmeal flour from steel cut outs and she likes that. I add breastmilk and some of my homemade fruit purees like apple or pear or banana for more taste

My LO never liked oatmeal cereal but she likes the steel cut or old fashioned oatmeal that we eat.

LO has never had oatmeal by itself--always with fruit. We introduced the fruits first and then the oatmeal so that we when we combined we knew there wouldn't be a reaction from the fruit.

Mine loves it, but yes - I second meredithNYC: add fruit or cinnamon or something else to flavor it a bit. And feel free to move on to other foods, even if your LO hasn't mastered actually ingesting the oatmeal.

DS hated oatmeal but would eat it marginally with fruit mixed in. He preferred rice cereal but I didn't end up doing much of either. But he loves "real" oatmeal now!

I usually mix some fruit into it, so if you think he's ready for that it might help.

LO loves oatmeal now! It took a good month for LO to actually start eating solids. Most of the time she opened her mouth, I put food in, and then it fell back out :) It can take a while for them to learn how to use their tongue to push the food into their throat. He probably just needs a little practice.

How old is your LO. If he is pushing it out, it may just be a reflex not that he doesn't like it. My daughter wasn't ready to really EAT solids until about 6 months. We practiced before then but it wasn't anything for nourishment, just practice. We practiced the mantra "Food Before One, is Just for Fun".

We just started solids this weekend and we decided to start with oatmeal. I'm not sure if it's because this is his first time eating but I'm not sure if he likes it. More ends up on his face or the floor (our chihuahua is not complaining!) than in his stomach. I don't like oatmeal so I would get if he doesn't like it. How long do I keep with the oatmeal? Should I try something else?
