First sound was like yours, babababa.
Said dadada first, then mamamama.
Meaningfully, mama first (although it started as myma, which was so flippin' cute).
Her favorite is la though. She sings it almost constantly.

Mama first! :) it had meaning starting around 9 months. Appah (Korean for dad) didn't come around until 12 months, but I think that's probably harder to say than dada.

Hmmmm at 9m she babbles both dada and mama but I think mama was first. I can't wait for her to use them in context. DH is on a parental leave right now with her so it'll likely be dada first.

His first was doggie.. It was more like daaahga but he made that sound consistently when his dog was around. He started saying dada soon after. His EI said dada/doggie are much more common first words than mama. He's 13m now and only say mama when he's really upset. He started saying doggie around 8.5 months.

DD(9 months) hasn't said either yet. I think my kids are just too interested in climbing stairs(god help me) than talking haha

M has been saying mama for a long time--at least 3-4 months. Dada came a little later (maybe a month after mama?). I kinda think she's starting to realize I am mama and DH is dada, but I'm not counting them as words yet because I'm not positive.

B said dada first, followed quickly by mumum. She was about 8 months when she said dad dad. Now she also says nan nan. ( we call my mom nanny.) I feel like she knows what she's saying because she will make really strong eye contact with the person that she's saying :)( she's just about 9.5 months now)

C has been saying mama for months- since maybe six months or so? I think she is starting to mean me but I'm not sure, but the sound has been there a while- especially when she is upset. Still no clear dada.

We have been saying dadadada to LO for months because it used to make her belly laugh! I'm so surprised it took her this long to say it!

dada. I was gone all day so DS was with DH. He as was saying "dadada" after that. I kept telling DH he taught him that while I was gone on purpose. He swears he didn't and DS just did it on his own. A few days later he started saying "mama".

Which sound did your LO say first? How old were they? When did you feel that they actually knew what they were saying?

Was dada or mama their first sound or did they make another sound first?

I heard that it is more common for a child to make the D sound first but, actually, LO started saying mumumum at about 8 months old and only said dada today! 9.5 months!! Once she said it, she said it over and over, it was so cute!!! But her first sound was bababa - which she started saying at about 6.5 months.

I don't think she associates any of the sounds with words, though!! :silly:
