Like @ValentineMommy: never. We told her she can't get out of bed without permission. At 4.5, she came out of her room without permission for the first time this weekend. We told her to sleep until 7am. At 7:02 she was standing next to my bed telling me it was time to be up.

This has happened 2x. DS1 is 3 and has always hated our bed. DS2 needs to cosleep when he's sick. DS1 has come into our bed at 3 or 4 am twice b/c he's realizing that DS2 is sometimes there and gets a bit jealous.

No but we use the door monkey to keep her in her room. So far I have never heard her try to get out of her room - in fact most days she stays in bed until I get her.

We went an entire year before he started coming into our room! When he was close to 3.5 he started coming in our room multiple times a night. When DH is travelling I sometimes just let him sleep in our bed. But he knows that he doesn't get to do that when daddy is home.

Once he realized he could get out we immediately child proofed the door to keep him in, so no lol. We are not a co sleeping family though and we transitioned to a toddler bed very early since he is a climber so this made sense for us.

We use a baby gate across his doorway so he can't wander the house at night. Our house is pretty toddler proofed, but I didn't like the idea that he could wander the house unsupervised! He's been in a floor bed since 1ish so probably a different level of concern than with an older LO.

I'm a little nervous of taking the crib rails off Xander's bed because of this, except our room is downstairs and his is up, so he can't get to us anyway... I have images of him standing at the top of the stairs, shaking the gate, and calling for us!

it was hell when we first moved her because she was getting out to bed/ her room countless times and wouldn't sleep.

A door knob cover solved that issue and now she doesn't even try to get out. She reads her books and goes right to sleep. We could probably even take it off at this point.

Never. He's almost 3. He actually doesn't even get out of bed in the morning until we come in either, but I don't think that's typical.

yup, and she still does. It's normal and natural. When she does manage to stay the night in her own bed we make a big deal over how much of a big girl she is. And she's pretty proud of herself.

We co-sleep so can't respond, but I have friends that dealt/went through this phase for a bit also! Guess it's the norm. They're testing out their new found freedom. lol

We transitioned LO to a toddler bed (just took the railings off her crib since its a convertible) a few weeks ago. The first week went fine, but then she started coming into our room in the middle of the night to cuddle because she said she was scared.

We tried a few things (different kinds of night lights mostly) and then just started bringing her back to her room immediately when she came into our room.

I'll be honest. It was hard to do this because I liked the snuggles! LO and DH are not very snuggly people, so that was the first time we've ever slept/snuggled together since she was a tiny baby. The hardest part was giving up the snuggles, ha! But we all sleep better with our own space.

She's been staying in her room all night the last week (found a good nightlight she likes) so I think this phase is over for now.
