DD is 11 months & still uses a paci but only at night or during naps. I am a bit nervous about the paci wean that we plan to start at 12 months but hopefully it will just be a few rough days

The hospital popped it in her mouth and she loved it from Day 1. I only gave it to her for sleep time so she was not overly dependent on it and got rid of it around 1 year. I don't really know why people are so against it. It served its purpose very well for us and it is said to reduce the risk of SIDS.

yes! Since he was 24 hours old. But that's because he needed it. Trust me! (after 6 hours of non stop crying)

He's 21 months and can't live without them. I don't mind. Better a pacifier than a thumb.

We didn't use it, but sometimes I wish I had during the first few months of LO's life.

My LO was slightly interested in one for a couple weeks of her first month but then quit. She never sucked her thumb (or fingers) either.

For maybe the first month or so LO used it. Then, he preferred his thumb. After a couple months he actually dropped both of the habits.

I plan on using one, but weaning it away early, before one year of age ideally.

Yes, we used a pacifier with my son. He never got dependent on them though. He only used it during his infant stages when he had the sucking reflex. I wanted him to use a pacifier instead of his hand/thumb so we tried to get him to use a paci early on. One day we just decided not to give it to him anymore and he was totally fine with it.

Neither DD nor DS have been big pacifier users. Of course, DH is also kinda against using them, so we've really only given them pacifiers as a last resort. DD stopped taking one altogether at 3 months; DS is 2.5 weeks old and will really only take one once a day or so. Neither of my babies have been very into sucking for comfort, though; they're both addicted to white noise instead, lol.

We bought avent soothies but only used them when LO is crying and we're in the car or out at dinner. DH uses them when I'm not home yet and he's crying.

I was pretty against them, but got them just in case. And then I tried oh so hard to get her to use them. She had reflux so she cried A LOT. But she didn't want it, she's a thumb sucker instead.

We would use it occasionally but she won't take it anymore! LO is now in love with her thumb and fists!

my first DD used a paci til 9 months. It was her sleep aid mostly... Some babies have a strong need to suck.. She defintely did and it comforted her and helped cue her naps and bedtime.

I wanted DD2 to take one as well... She did for a week or two, but then decided she liked using me for comfort more... she's a totally mommy's baby. No paci's at all now really. I've tried... She doesn't "get" them. She'll just play with it, chew on the sides, then toss it.

I am planning to not let my baby use a pacifier. I know some hospitals give them a pacifier to soothe them after birth which is fine by me, but once we get home I plan to get rid of it. I dont want them to get dependent on it

Did your LO use a pacifier? Did you plan on them using one or was it a last resort to get them to stop crying addition?
