My daughter has been in daycare since she was almost a year. I really believe it has prepared her for other social situations. She transitioned into pre school very easily and wasn't shy around the other children or couldn't function without me in the room. Going into kindergarten will be a smooth transition because she's already prepared for it.
She seems to be more eager to learn in a group setting than just her and I alone. She's starting to read simple little things and I couldn't get her to sit down with me and do it after I come home from work so yay daycare/pre school!

I think my son thrives and learns much faster because of daycare. I'm not saying I'm a bad mom, but they interact with other children, learn and seems to understand or pick up things quicker then if it was just me and him.

My daughter started daycare at 10 months and she's didn't really started talking till about 18 months, she knew things just wouldn't say them.

However my son is 18 months and he's been at daycare since 4 months and speaks in 3 to 4 word sentences sometimes. It boggles my mind since my daughter didn't start that till she was around 2.

And I will agree with you about the songs, my daughter will ask me to sing a song and I'll say I don't know the words and she will reply, don't worry mommy I'll sing it for you so you can learn them =)

DS started daycare at 7 wks, but he advanced fast then my friends' kids in speech. He also is a much better sharer, which I attribute to having all those kids to have to share with. I think daycare has its major benefits on kids.

My LO started at 6 months and I think that is why she is speaking in a lot of sentences now at 19 months. But it could also be because she is a girl. They mix it up so much at day care. The home is a much more static environment and I think kids learn less at home unless you can match what day care does.

It's hard to say how daycare affected Charlie's speech, because I'm sure he would've gotten much better at talking over time. But very quickly after starting daycare, Charlie's speech started to improve by leaps and bounds.

I've read that younger siblings start speaking sooner b/c they learn from their older siblings (better than from an adult). I guess for Charlie, there was a similar impact on his speech development from being around all those other talking toddlers.

Honestly, I was shocked and really grateful at the same time! I had thought that moving Charlie into daycare might slow down his development, but in fact in this respect at least it sped it up, Makes up a bit for him getting oral Herpes at daycare last month! :-)

The other surprise was that he picked up all these words and phrases that we didn't teach him. Oh and songs: they sing songs there, so I will open up YouTube to a song and sometimes he will already know the words. (o_O)
