Yes, also due to silent reflux. But as @SweetiePie: says, could also just be normal newborn stuff...

Yes, both girls mildly for the first month or so but nothing serious enough to be concerned about. Just newborn breathing.

DS would get congested over night/laying down. Ended up being a sign of silent reflux. We put him on meds and it got better.

My son started sounding congested when I started assuming he had silent reflux . Dr. confirmed it can be a symptom. Also can be from drinking too much. We had just increased his oz per bottle when the congestion kept getting worse. We lowered his intake and got on zantac and the congestion went away almost completely.

@gotkimchi: thanks for the reply! Cutting out dairy crossed my mind.

a@SweetiePie: yep, 2/16! Fun to have birthday twins :)But also wow, a month early! Hope your LO is doing well despite the early arrival. We've been doing drops a lot and started steamy showers / humidifier on Saturday, and it's been a lot better since then. Sadly the RnP seems to make it worse.... or maybe LO just doesn't like sleeping in it.

@Tanjowen: I've been wondering about reflux too. I'm going to mention it to the ped tmrw and then give it until a month to see if the symptoms get clearer or resolved.

@Littlebit7: yeah I did some googling but didn't find much / cut myself off pretty quickly. Maybe I should try again.

Yes. But mine also had (i think) a super mild version of the cold that I had when I gave birth. But in my late night googling, I guess some congestion is sort of normal?

@DesertDreams88: Yes, but it turned out to be a sign of reflux. He was more xongested after eating. The rock n play was a huge help until we started zantac.

Yes, normal, I commented on your other post too - I think our babes are the same age exactly...2/16? :-) Mine was just due a month later (3/16!)

My guy has sounded a little congested on and off. In the hospital they said it was normal newborn stuff. He had his 2 week weight check last Thursday and so I asked again. My Ped also confirmed that it’s just normal newborn breathing - she said the nasal passages for newborns are just so small and paired with dry weather it makes them sound congested. She recommended saline drops and humidifier. So that’s what we’ve been doing. She also said a wedge was fine if we wanted to try - or rock n play. But overall she said it was physiological and not much we could do - like all the aforementioned stuff was more to make me feel better than to actually “fix” anything.
He has no boogers or mucous or anything - just sort of snorty.

Just that.... did your newborn sound congested, and if so, what was it due to?

My newborn has been congested since about day 13 of life, which was of course about 5 days after LO1 started with a cold/virus and about 3 days after he was seriously quarantined (he stayed at my in-laws house.) I imagine the congestion is due to being exposed to his cold, and I already took her into the dr and they didn't seem too alarmed bc there were no other symptoms and her lungs/breathing sounded good. I posted a separate thread about it a couple days ago.

I'm wondering though if maybe I forgot how weird newborns breathe and/or maybe it's something more physiological rather than contagious? My DH is has been congested his whole life due to asthma, allergies, nasal polyps, and a deviated septum.

ETA: Her congestion seems positional - worse on her back, better on her side or tummy and/or while nursing.
