The on-call doctor was who I ended up speaking with first (because my water broke in the middle of the night) and she's the one that met me at the hospital. And probably less than that since my doc works fewer office hours than the others, so she probably has less on call shifts too. Our doctor's practice deliver their own babies unless they are out of town. Our doctor actually was there all morning, he cancels his office appointments (or has them covered by his NP) and is present through out the end of labor. Since I lived in a different canton (like a state) than my doctor, I had to deliver in the canton hospital. My doc could deliver there, but it wouldn't be covered by insurance, so we just opted to have the on call OB attending. The midwives do the delivery anyway. She had told us at our 1st appt that if I went into labor during the week that she'd deliver almost for sure but weekends were harder bc she has 2 daughters. i ended up getting induced on a Wednesday. My midwife was able to assist though and she actually delivered DS! </p>
