I switched to a sole practitioner at the end of my second trimester. She met us at the hospital when we arrived around 9am or so, checked in throughout the day, and delivered my son at 1am. She is my hero. I love her. I am so glad I changed docs.

With my first, no since I went in to labour on my own. With this one, yes because I didn't go in to labour on my own and had a scheduled c-section at 41+2 which my OB attended.

Mine didn't, I knew that the chances she'd deliver me is not great but I didn't really mind. The dr the ended up delivering me I had never met, but it wasn't a concern to me, I actually liked him a lot! And he totally made me change my mind about not wanting a man as my OB!

I saw a rotation of midwives and two of the OB's during my pregnancy. The MW I had seen the most was on call the night I went into labor but after the shift change I had a MW I had only seen once. After laboring for a few hours I ended up having a c section. The MW assisted but DS was delivered by an OB in the practice that I had never met. Thankfully I liked him.

My OB delivered my LO1 and it was a holiday weekend. I think he was going out of town the next day. A different doctor came to check on me in the hospital. The same OB came to fix me up in the hospital after I delivered in route and then he also came and checked on me in subsequent days.

The OB who I saw most frequently at the end of my pregnancy was the one who delivered me. I ended up meeting everyone in the practice at least once, but him and another I saw much more frequently just by the way our schedules worked. I would have been fine with any of them.

I never had a set OB/midwife while pregnant. It was whoever had an opening. The OB who delivered my DS was one of the two that were on-call.

No but it is common here. I was in the care of an OB's office and delivered at a hospital with an on call midwife and doc. It is actually the midwives "catching" the babies here though. (And at my second delivery the doc never made it to my delivery).

With my first, yes. But his office was across he street from the hospital and it was during business hours. I had a different doc for my second and third and he didn't deliver either. He was JUST coming off 24 hour call when I delivered my daughter and he was out of town for my son. I was bummed  I hated the resident that was there for my daughters delivery- very condescending (not to mention I worked with him and he had no respect for nurses). With my son though, my FAVORITE resident was on and it was fabulous!

My OB did not deliver LO1 or LO2, and no one in the practice was present at either birth! My OB was on vacation the first time. I labored for a long time with LO1 and have no idea why none of the other OBs were there to check up on me, especially since it was a weekday morning and their office is inside the hospital where I delivered.

No, I was admitted while my OB was on call but it was three hours before shift change so a different OB delivered.

My body was ready to push before the on call OB was out of a c section but the nurse couldn't make me wait any longer so we weren't even sure if the OB would deliver the baby or the nurse.

Neither time! My first OB worked in a large group and I knew the chances of her delivering me were low, based on their rotations. I saw half of the Obs in the practice, but one I didn't know delivered LO1. For LO2, I had only one OB, but he didn't make it to the hospital fast enough and one of the staff midwives delivered me. He walked in 10 minute after the birth and was amazed at how quickly it went.

With my first the practice was large and midwives from a few different offices delivered at the hospital. I had not met the midwife who caught DS before that day. She was amazing and probably my favorite of all the midwives I met.
For my second I was with a smaller group with 3 midwives and one or two that filled in irregularly at the hospital. I saw all three throughout my pregnancy and expected one of them to be there at the birth but we got stuck in traffic on the way to the hospital and had to go to another hospital where some random ob walked in just to catch DS. I wouldn't recognize him if I ran right into him! I think he was in the room for 5-10 minutes max.

Yes! One of my 2 obs was on call the weekend I was induced, so I was lucky! It was a close call at actual pushing time, as she had another patient in the next room also ready to deliver, and they told me that one of us might have the resident doc deliver if we went at the same time! I kept saying I was there first, so I wanted my doc! And I got her! She actually delivered both babies, as even though we started pushing at the same time, I only pushed for 40 min (30 with the doc) and LO was born, and the other lady pushed an additional 2 hours, poor thing! But at least we BOTH got to have our doctor!

This is why I don't understand when people choose where to have their baby based on a particular OB. No guarantee that doc will be the one to deliver your baby. I went with a midwifery practice where we got to know all the midwives throughout the pregnancy so we were sure to know the one working that day.

Yes, both times. My babies must really want to be delivered by our OB because both have been delivered right at the cut off time where it would roll to a different OB. DS was born at 5 a.m. and DD at 4 a.m.

I went with a small office that guaranteed one of the 2 Drs would deliver you. So for DD1 the OB I had seen the most was there. For DS they has split the DR office so there was one OB and a midwife no guarentee that it would be either one, but the midwife was in call the night I delivered.

My OB works at a large group, too, but I was induced over a weekend she was on call. She also told me to call her anytime if I went into labor because she'd make sure to be there. Typically with this office you get whoever is on call, but she really wanted to be there for me since it was a complicated delivery ( due to twins and DS's position).
