@spaniellove: Good! I'm glad you made an appointment to switch. You've been through too much to deal with that uncertainty.

I went ahead and made an appointment with the original practice I wanted to go to before my RE suggested someone else. I like that at this place your appointment is with a specific doctor and you stay with that doctor, like I assume it should be! My fear has always been that there would be too many different people seeing me and not understanding the details of my situation, and a place where it's a different nurse every time just isn't right for me.

I had my first appointment yesterday and saw a NP, which surprised me a bit. I was assured that my next appointment would be with my OB. The NP was nice and all, it just wasn't what I was expecting.

ETA: I love my regular nurse, but I always see a doctor when I go in, too. The whole thing just sounds bizarre and NOT what you need after all you've been through!

I saw my OB from the very beginning. When we were TTC, I even saw her after 6 months of trying without luck! My OB is in a practice with 4 other ladies, but I always see her unless she's out. Even when she's out, she lets me know so that I can schedule out/before my next appt so that I can see her or let me pick another OB in her practice for that visit.

I don't think my OB's office uses NPs. My very first visit (6 weeks) was with a nurse and was just informational to get my history and instruct me on the Do's and Don'ts and draw a bunch of blood. Since then every appt has been with my doc and she definitely always knows me (but to be fair, she was also my gyn for the last 6 or so years and so she already knew me from that).

I saw an OB each time. It sucks that even if you're seeing different NPs that they're not looking at your chart and consulting your OB so that everyone is on the same page.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I'm guessing this is their model, one NP rushing from patient to patient. Kind of like the overworked PCP! I saw that as soon as she left my room she knocked on another door. I agree that it doesn't have to take more than an extra minute to skim my due date and any complications and could prevent so many mistakes. Not sure they'd change any of that for me since they're run by a managed healthcare group that I know to be very profit-oriented, so if had a conversation with them it would probably be on my way out.

I went to a maternity clinic, but they were all technically general practitioners that just deliver lots of babies. I saw a doctor at every visit - never a nurse practitioner - and a specialist OB for a second opinion on my blood pressure/kidney function at the beginning and again toward the end to discuss a possible induction.

@spaniellove: would you be comfortable talking to them about your level of care? I had a frank conversation with my ordontist about the lack of professionalism in his office- techs yapping with each other, long waits and issues I have with him. The least people can do is review your file. You wait long enough at a doctor's office a few more minutes won't hurt.

@Mrs.Someone: For them to remember that I have a latex allergy would be too much, I think. Even DH who came with me today was surprised that they kept asking me the same questions that they got the answers to in the intake and didn't need to be asked again - "Do you have a job?" "When is your due date?" So weird. Hopefully I'll get to see the MFM regularly which will give me time to look for a new OB.

I don't. I usually see my OB's PA everytime. I've seen my OB once. But I'm very low risk and my appointments are seriously like "Everything good? Any questions? Okay see you in a month." Uneventful. So I don't mind. I really like the PA.

Last time I was scheduled to see my OB and he had to leave for a delivery and I saw his nurse practitioner. That sucked kind of because I was looking forward to checking in with him.

@brady80: I went with this practice instead of one I was interested in because my RE recommended them. But I'm starting to believe a few comments I've read online about how they've gotten too big for their own good.

@Mrs.Someone: Haha, I put up with a lot of chaos at my clinic and never left! In fact I grew to appreciate them and plan to bring them all treats when I leave because I'm so attached to them. But this, I don't know. Somehow it's different.

From what you described, it sounds to me like you should switch. It's only going to get more annoying to deal with :/ You do not need additional drama from your OB office while trying to have a baby!

I only saw my OB, except when I elected not to (she was delivering a baby and I didn't want to reschedule).

I saw a nurse practitioner early in my pregnancies but then at around 8 weeks saw my OB every time (for me it was once or twice a week throughout the whole pregnancy). They should be able to guarantee one of their doctors. Maybe not your main OB but at least one in the practice. It's sounds a little odd to me.

My practice didn't have any NP's, so I saw an OB or midwife at every appointment. There are three OB's and four midwives though. Maybe you could request to be seen by the same OB from here on out...? At the end of my pregnancy (once I found out I had a cord abnormality) I requested to be seen by only my favorite OB.
