The staff wasn't too intrusive with either of my births.
With my second delivery they were a little too hands off for my liking.
My OB stopped in around eight each day I was there, I actually looked forward to her visits. I like her a lot though so it was more like a friend visiting.

Not the OB, but the nurses were in every 2 or so hours, either to check on me or check on E (I had had a hemorrhage, and they were concerned about his blood sugars).

For DS, yes. People seemed to be coming in and out at least every hour. It was not restful at all! For DD, no. My OB came to visit once a day in the evening and nurses came once a day to check the baby. I was allowed to hang a do not disturb sign on the door anytime I wanted, so I would do it after my OB check and leave it up until the next morning (I stayed 4 nights).

I honestly can't remember postpartum, but when I was on hospital bed rest the drs would peek in my room to see if I was up. If not, they would come in later. They said they hate to wake a sleeping pregnant woman. Not sure if they do that with post partum mamas. I always thought it was nice.

I'll also say that I'm not grumpy in the morning so it didn't bother me. I was a little tired when the ultrasound tech would come in at 7am to do my ultrasound. Everytime, I would think couldn't you do this after the dr comes in after 9am.

People were in and out all the time. I didn't really have any expectation of getting long stretches of uninterrupted sleep so it didn't surprise me - on the contrary, when we were left alone for a few hours at night I got a little nervous that DH and I were solely responsible for LO for that whole time. NO clue what we were doing, obviously.

I want to say the nurses were taking my/LO's vitals every few hours at first? Maybe that was a GBS thing. But yeah they definitely never left us alone for more than 4 hours at a time. I'm glad too, I think the morning after she was born, I said to a nurse "Um she's been asleep for 4 hours..." and the nurse was like "Wow um you should definitely wake her up to feed her."

I have no idea! I can't remember details like that. People were in and out a lot, but I barely could tell day from night. It was like an out of body experience.

I do remember the docs coming around really early when I was in the hospital for preterm labor (I wasn't having the babies anytime soon, but I just needed to get the contractions under control). That sucked because it was so hard to sleep in that hospital bed and they were monitoring me most of the night. When that dr came in and it was still basically night time I was like wtf who are you? Why are you hereeee?

I don't remember, but we had the Dr, some nurses for me, nurses for LO, student nurses (we'd agreed to them there), residents, pediatrician, lactation consultants, social workers, etc in and out the whole time. I honestly didn't mind. Having round-the-clock care was very soothing for my anxiety. Fun fact, I was so hepped up on adrenaline I didn't sleep for about 48+ hours after giving birth.

Like some others, I don't really remember sleeping! The OB came in around 8 or 9am. But the pediatrician was in at 7am, they came early since they had to go to their clinic after. But for us, my OB practice was in the hospital I delivered at and the pediatricians office was across the street. So very convenient for both.

@mediagirl: yes, it's early, but she has patients in clinic to see so I'm not sure what the alternative is...I try to see my patients around 7, but with my clinic starting at 0800 and 20 mins from the hospital, earlier is necessary frequently.

I don't remember it being that bad, but I feel like I hardly slept at all, unrelated to all the checks. I don't remember anyone coming in late at night or super early if I was sleeping, besides when I asked the nurse to take the baby and she brought her back to breastfeed.

During the day we didn't have many visitors and we're just chilling so everyone coming in and out was no big deal.

Hmmmm. I had my son at 630pm. Done being stitched up by almost 9pm. Went to "sleep" at 1030.

Nurse came in to do vitals like at 11? Blood work to check platelets at 12. Had to pee but couldn't at 2am so catheter replaced. OB came in right at that time! Nurse again like a hundred times. For vitals/drugs/waking baby to nurse. Janitor popped her head in at 6 and said "oh I won't wake you" (good job!) blood work again at 7 and OB came then.

I don't think I was really woken because I was never left alone to sleep. Omg. It was horrible. The next night we asked for no one to come in and they didn't.

It still makes me rage a bit about how often they came in. If you're coming to check vitals and give me meds, get the baby then... Not 40 mins later.

Anyway. Rant over. Lol.

Yes. Super early. I was told OBs due their rounds super early to avoid conflicting with other labors and also bc they go to various offices. The pediatrician also came really too. It's unfortunate and annoying but I liked that they came early before the hustle and bustle of nurses, visitors, etc.

Actually, im fairly sure the nurse washed me (??? i couldn't tell you exactly what she was doing) in the middle of the night when I was really out of it.

not the OB herself but a resident. She kind of just poked herself in and asked if I was okay. I said yes, and that I was sorry but I was really tired, and then I just closed my eyes (I could barely control it) and went back to sleep.

I slept until 11am that morning. Maybe that shot of dilaudid after the c-section on top of all those extra pain meds wasn't such a great idea. :bummed:

Someone was in our room every 15 minutes for me or DS and I finally snapped and lost it. I had my nurse put a do not disturb sign with her pager number on it and everyone had to call her first before they came into our room. She was able to prioritize and minimize disruptions.
