@SweetiePie: That's good to know. Thank you.

I will start it up now so she's used to it when baby comes.

@Cherrybee: I asked my ped about white noise and hearing. She said use it forever if we want to, just don't blast it next to his head.

@Cherrybee: you need to start the white noise again! It's only if you have t super high that it's a problem. We live in a the city and c's room shares a wall with the building stairs so it's essential for us anyway.

@hilsy85: That's awesome to read. Fingers crossed that's our experience.

@regberadaisy: Oh god, bedtime. I hadn't even thought about bedtime shenanigans!

@Applesandbananas: We stopped using the white noise because I was scared it would affect her hearing (I read a scary article someone posted on here!). I could always start using it again. We live in a small terraced house - E's room shares a wall with ours and so does the baby's room. There's no room anywhere, in any room, for a glider! I was intending to do night feeds in my bed - I'm praying I can breastfeed because opening the stair gate to go downstairs wakes E up sometimes (but we cant leave it open because she can open her bedroom door) so I hope I dont have to make bottles!

@Foodnerd81: That will be key.... as long as the baby isn't VILE when she's awake (like E was), I can cope with her being woken up. But I don't want E to always feel I'm tending to the baby and ignoring her.

Surprisingly, no. Their rooms are right across the hall from each other. The few times DD1 woke DD2 up its because of an epic bedtime tantrum. We also use a sound machine in both their rooms.

We blast two white noise machines at night. Lo1 was never woken by the baby when she was in our room. They now share a room and LO1 has only been woken up once but yeah it was annoying bc he couldn't get back to sleep. LO1 has also been really good about being quiet while baby is sleeping--and he is verg loud and high energy. i though it would be a lot worse than it is.

You know C is not the worlds best sleeper, and amazing the baby has not woken her up! She has white noise going all night long in her room and so far t hasn't been an issue. I've been really surprised on occasion. The problem for us is sometimes she does wake up anyway and often only wants me to come comfort her and freaks out of its Dh, but by of the white noise I can't hear the baby, so I have to sleep with my phone in her room and have Dh text me when the baby wakes up.

As for the baby, being woken by the toddler hasn't been too bad. Thankfully she is more easy going and a much better sleeper than big sister ever was. I did purposely have her nap in the living room where it was bright and fairly loud for the first few months so she would be used to noises, and she sleeps on the go pretty frequently, or I'd never be able to take the toddler anywhere (she is home with me all the time, no school yet, so we'd go crazy if we had to home for every single nap at this point). The only time she gets woken by C is when she is just falling asleep and I'm putting her down and c practically yells, "G? ARE YOU AWAKE??" 😡

But she does usually get woken up in the morning when c comes in. Sometimes she sleeps through it and we leave the bedroom but mostly she wakes. But c stays in her room until her clock lights up at 7:15 so I can handle that.

I hope your next baby is easier going too. These two have such different personalities.

Do you still use white noise with E? Maybe turning the white noise up would help? How far away is E's room from yours (or wherever baby will be?) Can you handle night wakings with baby from the furthest part of the house from E's room, maybe a living room or something? You could set up the rocker or whatever you plan to use for rocking and such there?

I hope others have some good advice, I'm anxious for you just reading about this! My son is almost profoundly deaf so not much will wake him up, but we won't know until birth if the new baby has hearing loss and if we'll need to worry about our toddler waking baby up!

E was and still is a very light sleeper. Even switching the light on in the bathroom can wake her up. As a baby, she couldn't sleep out and about in her pushchair and, at home, I kept the house silent with white noise beside her while she slept. E had colic so, when she wasnt sleeping, she was screaming. Consequently, I developed a lot of anxiety around noise and around her waking up..... which has never gone away.....

Baby #2 is due in about a month and I'm wondering how this is going to work with a rambunctious toddler...... or even with our usual routine. For example, in the mornings, E comes into our bed and watches songs on the TV while I drink my coffee and get showered/dressed. Its her routine so, even on lazy weekend mornings, when Im not trying to get ready, she likes her songs on... but there will be a baby sleeping in our room, wont it wake her up? Gah!

Perhaps this baby will be a better sleeper? Or her being awake wont be the worst thing ever, unlike her big sister?

But E is is still a light sleeper, what if the baby wakes her by screaming in the night? She still cant settle herself back to sleep if she wakes in the night. How am i going to deal with both? Gah.

Did you have this issue? How did you get around it or deal with it?
