My in-laws requested to be Grandma Firstname and Papere (French for Grandpa). I'm not a huge fan of small children referring to their elders by their first name, so I'm hoping that won't stick.

My parents are just Grandma and Grandpa I think? My mom thought Grandma sounded old too since she's barely 50, but while I was pregnant my cousin who had their kid at 16's son got his girlfriend pregnant and made her a grandma at 34 and she was ok with being called "Grandma" so I think my mom decided she could be ok with it too!

My Grandmother is Gigi and my husband's paternal grandma goes by Mamere to her grandkids, so I'd assume she'll be Grandmamere to her great grandkids.

When I get old I want to be Granny Meow Meow.

My mom has wanted to be a Nana since I was little. It's what we called her mom. We're currently expecting our first and I'm not quite sure on the rest of the grandparents' names. My IL's just had their first grandchild last week so their names aren't set yet either. Since my parents are both remarried there are a total of six names to coordinate. :)

My parents want to pick. We always called both sides grandma/grandpa and my great grandma was nana.

My dad already picked but I can't remember what my mom said he wanted... papa I think? or Poppy? something like that. My mom said she didn't like "grandma" and also suggested meemaw but my dad nixed it because he also said it sounded even older than grandma (I agree!). So my mom is still thinking. Maybe nana although that has always been "great grandma" to us. I like gigi though! maybe I'll suggest that.

I think my inlaws will be grandma and grandpa. They already have a grandson (who is not yet talking) and they refer to themselves as grandma/grandpa for him.

We let them all pick. I think my mom was bummed because my step MIL was already being called Nana (nah-nah) by my nephew. On my side grandmas are always called Nana (nan-ah), but I told my mom that seemed too confusing. I wish I hadn't, I don't think that now :(

Anyway, she put a lot of thought into it and chose Nonna. My dad....we always joked he'd be called "Codger" because he can be such a grumpy old man. AND he liked it, so we call him "The Codger". Seriously. They are Nonna and the Codger.

I wish I had just told them: "You're Mimi and Pop-pop - live with it!" It's too late now.

I grew up with calling both grandmothers Grandma. I expected my mom to be the same, and she threw me by refusing to use it. She feels like Grandma sounds too old, and that's what we call her mother. So she wanted Mimi, which I totally vetoed, because I felt like it sounds way too much like Mommy. I think we've settled on Grammy, which doesn't sound any younger to me than Grandma, but oh well.

Mine all either picked or had their names already! My dad picked 'papa bear,' my stepmom was already 'Gigi,' and my Ils were already 'Gram & Grampy' (which, I feel your pain on meemaw, I really dislike gram and grampy as grandparent names but what could I do?? haha!) My mom still refuses to answer to Grandma; she's being a brat about it, so I just don't have a name for her yet!

have her watch a few episodes of big bang theory and after hearing sheldon talk about his "meemaw" enough she might be over it! I think it's fine to say "hey so are you set on Meemaw? I'm asking because we don't love it- it doesn't seem to fit you. What about _____?" (And then give a few ideas. Maybe just knowing you don't love it will help her think of a few others.

We call my mom Mommers (moreso now that we're older) and we are calling her Grandmommers now haha. I'm sure she'll be Gramma too though!

MIL mentioned wwanting to be called meemaw, but FIL DH and I axed it because we phonetically couldn't say it right every time. LOL, it's just an awkward flow of words to us.

Right now we're just saying grandpa (gramps as fil likes), and grandma, for the ILs and we'll see what DS ends up calling 'em.

My parents are hal-mi & ha-bee, shortened cutesy versions of the korean words for grandma and grandpa. they'll probably stick with that until DS is wayyyy older.

Yes and no. My dad didn't want to be called grandpa so he chose something else, but it's cute and I love it.

My mom didn't care, and so she was initally Nana. Then my son realized that everyone referred to her by her first name, and started calling her, "My {first name}. She loved that he was so possesive of her, and it stuck. He's 11 now, and dropped the "my" a couple of years ago. I don't like it, and think he should call her grandma or nana, but she thinks it would be weird if he called her anything else. This is the same woman who would have killed me, growing up, if I referred to ANY adult by their first name!

Our parents chose their names - Nana and Poobah, Gramma and Poppy. Now it's a waiting game to see if LO actually calls them that!

(and I agree that meemaw sounds much older than grandma. I think culturally I'm used to that since I'm in the south?? MeeMaw's were always someone's great grandparent)
My good friend's daughter calls her grandma Tutu - which I think is really cute.

Previous grandkids picked for both, so I didn't have to deal with it.

For my parents: The other grandparents wanted to be Grandma and Grandpa, and my parents didn't want to do Grandma LastName and Grandpa LastName, so they chose different names (Grammy and Poppa).

For MIL/FIL: Both sets of grandparents wanted to be Grandma and Grandpa, so they're each Grandma LastName and Grandpa LastName. Since DD has a different name for her other set of grandparents we'll just have her call them Grandma and Grandpa, no last name necessary.

Both my mum and MIL wanted to be nan. My mum was upset about it because she was dead set on nan - it was what her mother was known as and her mother passed away many years ago. MIL was insistent that they could both be nan and wouldn't choose another name either. Sigh. I really wanted them to have different titles but what could I do? Upset my mum? Challenge my MIL?

Aaw, I've already picked meemaw as my granny name!! I just hope my kids approve!!

My ILs go by Nana and Pops (at least to their other grandsons, E doesn't call them anything yet).

My mom half-seriously wants to be called Honey or Tink. I figure there's a chance that E might make up his own name to call her, and even if he doesn't...eh, if it's what she wants it doesn't hurt me at all, even if I think they're silly.

If it's something that's important to you, maybe you could email her one of the billion grandparent-name lists you can find on the internet. Or just outright tell her that you think it sounds old, older than Grandma even, since that's something that matters to her.

@LuLu Mom: I agree & we told them they could choose ... but then she said "Meemaw", and I wanted to puke, ha. It just sounds like a old grandmother from Alabama or something, and my mom is actually pretty young & "hip".
