They were more economical. She used pre-folds with old-school diaper pins and plastic covers. Washed them all, rarely ever used a dryer, hung them all on the line. My mom was going to cloth diaper me but then I was born premature and while in the hospital I was changed constantly so I hated being wet. They used disposables for convenience when out of the house or traveling. Over the 7ish years they were using diapers, they used a diaper service at times and washed their own.
