Not really a sport, but I danced for 7 or so years. I did play volleyball a bit (quit in HS though because I hated the coach) softball, curling and loved badminton (still do!). I played/did a LOT growing up (figure skating, soccer, swimming, lacrosse) but I never loved it. I'm not a competitive person at ALL, hate being "responsible" for advancing/letting down a team, hate attention (I'm a total introvert), so team sports were kind of exhausting and miserable for me. My family lived on a boat and traveled from the time I was 9 until I was 13, so we didn't have access to organized sports. When we returned to the United States and I went to highschool but dad tried to get me to try some sports, but I had no idea how to play any of them! Plus, honestly, I'm not very athletic/coordinated in that way. It wasn't specific to sports, they also encouraged us to take music lessons. </p> <p>Both of my sisters loved dance and stuck with it for years, and my younger sister played softball for years. </p> <p>I quit soccer, gymnastics, dance, piano, riding, and refused to try softball. Once we hit middle school my parents required us to be involved with at least one extracurricular activity per season. I had no musical talent and I'm horrible with sports that require hand-eye coordination, so I started running cross-country and track. I looooooved it and have never looked back! I started out with t-ball when I was 4 or 5, and played baseball/softball until middle school. Once in middle school, I started playing basketball and kept up with that thru college. We were in gymnastics at a young age (my earliest passion) and I did volleyball, softball, basketball, track, cheerleading. I did ballet for about 8 years but did too many other activities (mainly violin) and my mom made me quit so I didn't get overburdened. I did softball during the summers as well, and almost played in high school but it was similarly too much with music and school. my parents stressed academics much more, but I do wish I'd been more active because I feel like I struggle with exercising now, it doens't come naturally to me. I took part in the first day of volleyball practice when I was a freshman. There was no guarantee I would make the team or anything, but once my parents figured out they were so mad. They told me to play ball in the backyard (aka the parking lot to my parent's restaurant). They said I had to work at the restaurant and don't have time for after school activities. Ugh. I'm still upset about it today. My three older sisters played sports in high school and so did my younger sis. I played several instruments and they did encourage me to continue even when it got hard and I wanted to quit. I'm so glad they did and that I stuck with it! I really wanted to play football and hockey but they refused. They said it was too rough of a sport (although looking back it may have been a financial issue). I was in baseball briefly (hated it but our neighbour was coaching the team and told me parents he needed me)</p> <p>After much begging I was allowed to take martial arts. It stuck and I ended up becoming an instructor. Now as an adult I finally play hockey which is a lot of fun. @Mrs.Bee It's never too late to start, especially if you are somewhat athletic and in shape.</p> <p>I think because I was very quiet and nerdy when I was younger my parents thought I was content focusing on my studies and didn't "need" sports.
