I stayed home alone during the day a lot when I was a kid. I went to a babysitter until I was in grade 3, but after that I stayed home alone all the time, even in the evenings sometimes.

When I was in high school my parents would leave on vacation for a week at least once a year and I would be all by myself for the whole week. I had to look after myself and my 2 cats.

Never overnight....But I think I started babysitting my little sister and brother after school when I was in the 6th grade (I think I was maybe 11ish?). They were 5 and 6.

They drove me nuts.

not overnight that I remember...

but I only remember being babysat mayber 1-2x in my life. I had two older siblings so we all just stayed home together and my parents would call to check in.

Both my parents worked a lot so we were always home alone. The first time I remember being home alone for a longer period of time was in 8th grade. My little brother had a hockey tournament about 7 hours away and I couldn't go because I had a ski meet that weekend so my parents just left me. No one checked in on me, but my grandparents did live in the same town if I did need something. It was from Friday night to Sunday night I think.

Not until i was 13, then they left us home alone. But never overnight. Hell, they STILL wouldn't leave me alone overnight in their house when I was in college! Paranoid about the boogy man, I'm sure :)

Yup! I know I was in high school the first time they left us alone while they went away. My brother is a year older & he was there too. Neither if us could drive yet though. My grandma stopped by a few times to check in on us. I guess it's probably a good thing to get left on your own a few times before you move out & go to college, but teenagers just seem so young & irresponsible it's hard to imagine actually doing it!

When I was a freshman and my bro was a senior, my parents had to go out of the country for a week to attend their friend's funeral. They just let us stay home and had our neighbors and friends check in on us a lot! We were pretty good kids so we didn't get into trouble or anything! :-)
