No, I totally would've been onto it - I was a very skeptical child and flipped whenever my mom washed my blanket because I loved it's scent.

But one time my dad got sick of my brother and I leaving our bikes in the front yard overnight, so he hid them and let us think they had been stolen for a bit. After revealing the truth he asked if we had learned our lesson. Um, if the lesson is not to trust you, then yeah, totally! lol

No but my mom would tell me about things really poorly/dramatically. She told me once when I got home from school that we lost a member of the family. I thought she meant my grandmother. Nope, my cat.

Another time she called and asked what the worst news she could tell me was that would make me angry. I said that she and dad weren't coming to my wedding. She said, "really?? Not like, 'you're getting a divorce?'" I said "what??" She said, "no, I just wanted to let you know we got rid of your childhood piano and I was worried you'd be angry."

I had a plush baby doll (that was so cleverly named "Baby") that got lost somewhere between home and daycare. My parents searched high and low for a replacement/duplicate. They found one and my mom told me she washed it. I never doubted her, but she told me years and years later.

Not that I know of...that must have meant they were pretty sneaky ;) However, my grandma lived with us, she's now 93. She once told me that the "Indians" came in the night and stole my bike, when in reality she ran it over. Of course, I believed her. (Please don't flame the lady for her horrible terminology, she was born in 1920, and is usually pretty good about choosing the right words, especially for her generation).

I remember an outdoor cat "disappeared", and years later my mom confessed my dad ran it over, but normal no they didn't cover things up. we had a lot of dogs die over the years (outdoor pets in country) and they never lied about those, so I'm not sure why they did with the cat! lol

ETA: lol I totally didn't answer your question right since you asked about REPLACING! oops

Omg not that I know of! Haha

My grandma replaced my cousins very ailing fishing with a very living bright coloured one. She told my cousin she dumped in some of my grandpas medicine and it fixed the fish. She believed her too!

My special blanket. They bought two and switched them out all the time, then threw one out entirely after a puke-fest one day. I never noticed.

Nope! Not in secret anyway. They never even fudged anything when I had a pet die. My mom was always pretty straight with us.
