My dad was the lecturer in the family. but it didn't always come off as lecturing me or my sister. Sometimes it was "advice" and "life lessons" that he could go on and on and on and on about. My parents definitely never lectured me. Their point was usually made through example or through weaving in what they wanted me to learn into regular conversation or discussion. If I did something they didn't like, I would get the "We're very disappointed and expected XYZ from you" comment. Her favorite phrase of all time was, "Let me educate you....." and then she would talk for 30 minutes.</p> <p>Like, "You loaded the dishwasher wrong again. You must be doing this because I haven't done a good enough job showing you how to do this the right way. Let me educate you on how to properly place the dishes...blah blah blah blah.</p> <p>Her other favorite phrase was, "Be a problem solver". Like, same dishwasher scenario "Be a problem solver. Look in the dishwasher. Where is the water coming from?
