I was sitting on the floor with a family friend who was several years older, and much to my mom's dismay, I tried chocolate for the first time! Sorry mom, you can't steal all the candy anymore!</p> <p>Other than that, my parents never really regulated the candy. I think it's sad that some kids don't get to eat their candy (just read a blog post about how you should figure out sneaky ways to get the candy away from your kids). Part of the fun of Halloween for me was having ALL THAT CANDY. And eating almost enough to mKe you sick that first night. And then slowing down on the candy eating to make it last. I know at certain points we were cut off but I don't think there were any hard and fast rules about candy consumption. I loved to save mine though so it may not have mattered for me!</p> <p>With the kids I have worked with I finally found the best tactic for us-- if everything else they eat goes bad eventually why doesn't candy? It stays for usually about 2 weeks and then I tell them to pick their last piece before it goes bad and we pitch it or their parents take it to work (in secret). They get so much though that it really is necessary. There has never been a razor blade found in an apple -- that is a complete urban legend. My parents let us eat all the candy -- they never really regulated our sweets.</p> <p>Charlie is way too young to have a bag full of candy though, so we're definitely going to regulate his candy.
