She said she loved them all (not a surprise, I don’t think she would be honest if she hated a name we loved), but did make a couple of good points about our names. One name on our list was “Mina”, and she said that LO would probably run into most people calling her “Nina” since that is the more popular name. She also thought people would have trouble pronouncing/spelling the name “Phillipa”. Since I have a name that 90% of the general public butchers every single time they say it, it’s actually super important to me that LO have an easy name, because correcting people gets old, *fast*. By then end of our conversation, which moved on to other topics, she said it was growing on her. Then last night I was IMing with her and she said "You know. I think I kind of like it now!". My dad didn't make a peep (not uncommon). The day she was born My husband spoke to his sister on the phone and she said "oh so you didn't change her name? I was thinking you probably would since naming her after someone just isn't fair to her. She's named Libby-Jane after the grandma my husband was closest with (that ironically did not get along with his sister) and after my grandma. There's two other children in my husband's family that have Libby in their name but only as middle names. I'm a little afraid my grandmother is going to hijack the naming like she did with some of my cousins. </p> <p>When one of my aunts was pregnant, she and my uncle decided to name him Ariel (like Ahh-ree-el). Grandma didn't like it and said so many times. When the baby was born, we all called him Ariel at the hospital...then the baby came home from the hospital as Raphael. It totally fits him now, but at the time it was a very "what just happened??" situation. We didn't finalize LO's name until she was born. Family members have told us that the name we chose was their favorite of the possibilities now that it's her name.
