Everyday. A bedtime story was always part of our bedtime routine. I always loved walking to the library with my Dad to pick out new books. When we outgrew that, my Mom was always sure to include new books as add-ons to gifts, or made them our souvenir that she'd bring back from her travels.

Even if not for the language/literacy benefits, I have some really happy memories of quality time with my parents through books.

My parents read to us every night when we were little. Once we were learning to read, we'd read to them. When we got a little older, we'd still read every night. I love books and I know its because books were always so important in our house.

Nope. But that's likely because I was a total book hog and read constantly to myself. I remember her helping me when I was learning to read, but I pretty much just took care of it myself. I still love curling up alone with a good book.

My mom read to me a lot. I had an unending appetite for books and stories! Eventually I started reading to her / telling her long, drawn-out stories, and so she read to me less.

YES! I remember when I was little, my mom used to read to us on Friday nights (or maybe every night, but for some reason Friday is standing out to me) and we'd just curl up beside her and she'd read something. I remember specifically her reading The Hobbit to us.... maybe we weren't as young as I'm imagining...

Anyway, yes! My parents definitely read to us and I think that gave us a love of reading. I'm definitely planning on reading to my children.

My parents read to me all the time. My dad would wake me up every morning by reading to me. I disagree that it doesn't matter--I often wonder about my students who dislike reading/aren't strong readers and how they could have benefited from parents who read to them from a young age. I guess I'm trying to say that while of course not all intelligent people were read to as children, it still matters a great deal! A child can only be enriched by being encouraged to love books.

My mom was busy learning English, but I was always at the library with the librarians when my mom had her lessons. I think she read to me, but it was simple stuff. My dad, no, I don't think he read to me.

My grandma watched me during the day when I was young and Ioved her reading books to me. I would climb in her lap and make her read all of the books she had for me at her house over and over again. Reading is something special the two of us still share. We share books :)

And when I was a little older my bro and i had bunkbeds amd our stepdad would come in our room every night and lay in the bottom bunk and he read us every single book in the chronicles of narnia. We loved it!

Yes, they would read to us every night. We would all curl up on one bed and one of my parents would read us a book. I lost count of how many times they read us The Hobbit.

When my dad was teaching me how to read, he made me read to him every night, and he'd switch the book once I finished one so that I'd never have time to memorize it.
