As grandparents they are super hands on, running around, playing with DD. But growing up this is not something I ever remember them doing with me or my siblings. I remember playing with my brother and sister a lot or doing things by myself. We did eat dinner together every night which was specific family time. My parents also spent a lot of time driving me and my siblings around to various activities and practices. I have plenty of pictures of him playing with me and my siblings. He was very patient and great about showing enthusiasm. If it was faked I never would have guessed! My siblings and I also liked to "help" him do things like work on the cars and yard work. </p> <p>My stepmom didn't play with us that I can remember. She was a sahm and had no problems kicking us out of the house to play outside so she could cook, clean, or have some time to herself.</p> <p>I don't remember my mom playing with us too much, but we did lots of family things together. Generally at least one weekend day was a family activity day (games, day trips, local parks, etc.) and the other was usually something either related to church or home maintenance (chores, yardwork, etc). My mom was a SAHM, so she often did things with us after school as well, though not once we were teenagers. And we played music together a lot as a family, and sang. Mostly church hymns with harmony. Also, the whole family would spend a ton of time together when we went camping in the summer.</p> <p>As for doing things together on weekends, my mom would mostly do stuff like drive me to the library upon request. But we wouldn't look at books together or anything - she would come pick me up an hour or so later. Oh, I almost forgot - my mom would also come up with big landscaping projects, and I spent a lot of time landscaping the yard to her specifications.</p> <p>It was just a different time! I never doubted that my parents loved me, but they did their own thing and left us mostly to our own devices (except when they were conscripting us to work as free child labor).</p> <p>Did your parents want to hang out/play with you a lot growing up? </p>
