Thanks again everyone for the advice and well wishes. It's done and it wasn't too bad! A resident did the procedure and she told me that it was her first time, but she did such a good job. I barely even felt when the catheter went in, even though she said there'd be some discomfort. The rest was just weird/uncomfortable/crampy but not painful.

As for the results, everything looked mostly normal. It took a long time for the dye to spill out of my right side so I had to flip from side to side to get everything moving. The doctors said there might have been something blocking the way, but nothing too bad since it did spill out eventually.

@twodoghouse: My DH did not come with me (I don't think he would have been allowed into the room). I'll be honest about the fact that this was not a test I liked very much. I almost passed out due to the pain (yes - I did take ibuprofen beforehand) likely because I have a blocked right tube and they had to do the test twice to double check. But it was over quickly and after resting for awhile, I was able to drive myself home. I almost called DH away from work to come and get me, but everything subsided really quickly. I did stay home the rest of the day.

Wishing you all the best!

@ParkerHaus: Aw, that sounds very sweet. I wish he could sit with me while it happens, but my hospital won't allow it. :(

Thanks to everyone else for the stories & advice. I will definitely take some ibuprofen and a pantyliner!

No, he didn't come with me - the procedure only lasts about 20 minutes and I drove home. I did stay home from work, however, because of the cramping and that yucky discharge. I took ibprofen before the procedure as this may help with the pain and discomfort (for me, the discomfort was tolerable - it's a weird feelilng - but others have different experiences). Good luck :)

I went by myself. It's a little uncomfortable for a few seconds, but it wasn't like I wanted him there. It was over so quickly that I would have felt bad wasting his time away from work. I felt totally fine after. You won't need to be driven home...it's a really simple procedure. I agree with @dagret - just make sure you have a thin pad. I thought there would be a ton of leakage, but it isn't anything a pantyliner can't handle.

Yep! He held my hand through the whole thing. I was glad he came because both were blocked and it was painful to unblock them.

Mine is scheduled for Monday and I told DH not to come. It's at an annoying time - 10:00am so we would both have to take the morning off work and he can't even be there while I'm getting it done.

@blackbird, thank you so much for sharing what it's like!! I am super nervous about it, I hate going to my gyno appointment every year and she's super fast and gentle.

I went by myself, too. Here's a tip: bring a pantyliner or thin pad because you will leak fluid and/or spot, and they give you those LOVELY hospital pads that are 6 inches thick.

I went alone to mine. It was a very quick procedure...and he can't be near you anyways, since it is a giant x-ray machine.

You don't need to be driven home afterwards. All the doc does is put a catheter in you, fill it with dye (which causing some cramping), they take a few x-ray photos, and then you can leave.

It really is no big deal!

My HSG is scheduled for Thursday morning (yay!) and I'm not planning on having my husband with me. The hospital I'll be at is 40 minutes from his work and only two minutes from mine, so I figured even if I'm really uncomfortable, it's a short trip back to work for me. One of my co-workers knows about it too and she said she'd pick me up if I need her to.

What do you guys think? Did you need driven home afterward? Did your SO come just for moral support or did you go by yourself?
