@winniebee: our experience wasn't too bad! My son was able to tolerate dairy in my milk by 7 months and consumed it on his own at 9 months with no ill effect. He just continued to spit up :) it was a pain but he did eventually stop!

@MamaG: some days are better here too. But then out of the blue it will be terrible again. I'm hopeful 8 months will be better but I'm trying to accept it might be this way until age 1.

We tried everything with our first, including soy formula, gentelease, etc. Nothing worked. Our pediatrician said some babies just spit up a ton. She spit up until well after her 1st birthday.

We have spit up too. Some days seem better. It would be great if 8 months makes things better. That's right around the corner for us.

@lamariniere: yours is the only encouraging story lol!

We do see a GI specialist who isn't that concerned about his spit up issues. He hasn't recommended cutting anything and doesn't know if R has the dairy intolerance since I've been off it so long now. He thought spit up would slow down with solids but so far it hasn't much. I've heard others say that 6m wasn't magic but 8 months was better.

My DD was a major spitter, but didn't seem to be affected by me consuming dairy. She stopped spitting up around 8 months and has never had a problem eating dairy or with WCM.

My mom and I were literally just discussing this. LO2, 6 months, is MSPI, on Alimentum formula, and has been a terrible spitter since maybe 1 month old. He's now maxed out on his Zantac dose for his weight (1.8 mL 2x per day), we're adding an insane amount of rice cereal to his bottles (1 Tbsp per 2 oz, so 3 T for a 6 oz bottle, per pediatrician) and even adding a lot of solids hasn't helped reduce his spitup. It's so bad.

I'm starting to think he's reacting to the tiny milk proteins in Alimentum. Most babies with MSPI can handle the extremely broken down proteins with no problem, but some do have issues, and I'm betting he's one of them.

Alimentum was like a miracle cure for my first MSPI baby, so I'm disappointed. But I'm now thinking we'll have to either switch him to Neocate/Elecare, or start him on Prevacid if his doctor will agree to it.

My LO was a screaming unhappy spitter until he went on meds. Then he spit up just as much (think- exorcist style) but with no pain. So I cut out dairy completely and he virtually stopped spitting up in two days. He still was reactive to it until just after 1. Anytime I tried yogurt with him under 1, he'd throw it up. He's totally tolerant of it now though.

@winniebee: My DD was a lot like your LO. She was a happy spitter, but I didn't like how much she spit up so I cut dairy to see if it would help. She still had some spit up, but on days after I accidentally had dairy or deliberately tried some to see if she reacted, it would be so much worse. When we introduced solids, she couldn't handle dairy but around 11 months she started to be okay with yogurt. I kept pumping until she was about 13 months old and then used freezer stash for another month or do while we tested WCM -- she handled it okay so we did a gradual transition over a couple weeks. Now, she has no issues with any dairy, as far as we can tell.

My niece spit up a ton and had bad reflux for the first year or so... she was formula fed and they tried all different things. Around her 1st birthday they discovered it was a dairy allergy (not sure how) and she still needs to be dairy-free now at age 4. If she accidentally consumes dairy, she vomits and has diarrhea.

My spitter turned out to be intolerant to dairy, soy, wheat, eggs and nuts. My doc is really anti reflux meds (he pretty much only gives them if baby is losing weight or screaming all day everyday) so we never tried meds but I did go on a really extensive elimination diet, and it helped LO's spitting a ton. I was really worried but LO completely outgrew everything by a year. When she turned two we did allergy testing and the only reaction she has was a SUPER mild reaction to pecans that the allergist thought might even be a false positive (we avoid them just to be safe).

I eliminated dairy and soy due to issues with my son's stool - bloody, slimy, green. He was a happy spitter who barfed tons and although eliminating dairy and soy cleared up his poop, it did nothing for the spit up. I never tried to eliminate anything else to see if it would help with his spit up.

He was able to tolerate soy and dairy by 9 months. He stopped spitting up for the most part by 10-11 months.

LO2 used to spit up like it was his job, and each time it was an insane amount. I suspected dairy and soy and eliminated it from my diet around 2 months. He spit up a lot less, but we had issues with his stool. I continued to eliminate more foods until there was no more bloody stools. We had an allergy test done at 10 months due to a really bad allergic reaction to wheat. It was confirmed that he is also allergic to dairy and a long list of other foods. I don't see him outgrowing it anytime soon since his numbers for dairy were high. LO1 is also allergic to dairy and hasn't outgrown it yet at 4.

R is a major spitter upper - he's 6.5 months and it's been a problem since he was a month old. And he went on reflux meds at 6 weeks because he was in a lot of discomfort. some days are normal amounts of baby spit up and other days torrential. I cut dairy when he was a month old to see if it would help - it didn't seem to but when I tried it around 5 months he seemed to spit up a lot more. I'm going to try it again in another month or so to see what happens.

So I'm curious did your spit up baby react to dairy? Either in your diet or in their own? When did they outgrow it?
