@NerdBee: I love a break too, especially now having two kiddos I'm definitely ready to sit for a minute, get some cleaning done or shower. I like the idea of limiting her naps to a shorter time. She's ok if she doesn't nap IF we are out and about and keeping her entertained, otherwise around 6pm she turns into a monster which includes non-stop whining, not cooperating, and overall being a stinker.

@Bao: I'm so jealous that your LO sleeps in so late. I'm lucky if my LO sleeps past 7am. Sounds like your LO is a rockstar sleeper but maybe she sleeps too well now

Another alternative is to limit her nap time. Maybe only allow her to nap for 1 to 1.5 hours. So if she naps from 2 to 3:30pm, she should be ready for bed around 8:30pm. She's a bit young to drop the nap but every kid is different so maybe she can handle it. How is she when she doesn't nap? If she is happy then maybe she doesn't need the nap. I love having a bit of a break during the day so I'd fight to keep the nap as long as possible

@NovBaby1112: @NerdBee: Hmm...I am not a morning person so waking her up earlier would stink lol! I guess I'd almost rather her sleep in until her normal time and then skip a nap completely and then go to bed at a decent time. If I put her down later at say 2-2:30pm then she would sleep until 4-5 and definitely not be ready for bed by 8:30. But I also don't want her up until 10pm because I like a break at night with DH before I go off to bed. So yeah maybe she is just needing less sleep now!

@Bao: it sounds like her sleep needs have decreased. My LO was getting about 13 hours of sleep in total around that age (about 11 hours at night and around 2 hour nap). I would try lengthening her first wake time to about 5.5 to maybe 6 hours. If she wakes up at 9am then 1:30pm is only a 4.5 hour wake time. She is probably not tired enough for a nap. If you would like to preserve her nap time then I would try to wake her up earlier. If you like to sleep in then I would push her nap time later and her bedtime may need to be later too. I also find that it helps my LO nap better when we go out in the morning and he's had a lot of physical activity. Hope that helps!

@Bao: oh my goodness, 1 pm?! dang girl likes her sleep! ok in that case...hmm...I think at 20 months if she wakes up at 9am, 1/1:30 is probably too early to start a nap (hence her playing in crib/etc for hours). My LO is almost 18 months and can handle 5.5/6 hours of awake time before her nap- but I do know every babe is different. The only other thing I can think of, which I am sure you don't want to do (!) is wake her up around 8am, in hopes she will make up that sleep during her nap.

@NovBaby1112: haha that was a fluke thing, and I actually had to wake her up at 1pm that day! Usually she wakes up between 8;45/9am for the day, and I attempt nap around 1:00/1:30 and she goes to bed at night around 8:30. So she is getting 12 hours (roughly) of night sleep.

from your IG pics, doesnt your LO sleep in until like 11 or 12? I'd have a hard time getting my LO to nap too if she slept that late! :silly: She may just be getting all her hours at night! What time does she go to bed? I think the average sleep needs at this age are around 13-14 hours/day.

We are going through this now. I refuse to accept this could be the end of naps.

A has been fighting her naps about 6 out of 7 days of the week. She will just sing, dance, play, talk to her animals etc. There's about 4-5 hours in between wake up and nap time and I have tried adjusting it on either side of that to see if it helps, with no luck. She is 20 months old, surely she isn't giving up her nap already....right?! I'm wondering if this is some type of phase, but it all started a few weeks ago when we ditched the pacifier.
