With two naps, DD was sleeping 1 hour in morning and 2 hours in afternoon. On one nap she sleeps 2.5-3 hours. I'd say it all evened out for us, but I much prefer the 1 nap schedule for planning the day!

Nope. Both girls went from two 1.5 hour naps to one 1.5 hour nap.

@BabyTsMom: not alone. Went from 3-4 hrs of total napping in a day to 1-1.5 at best. Almost always waking up at the 45 or 60 min mark and having to be told to go back to sleep. When she could easily pull two 2 hr naps without wake ups easily. No idea what went wrong! I would kill for even regular 2 hr naps. And it's been like 6+ mo now so I'm not feeling hopeful.

L went from 2-2 hour naps to one 3 hour nap.
C has been on one nap for about a week and went from 2-1.5/2 hour naps to one 1.5/2 hour nap. Today she did 3.25. I'm praying today is her new normal.

Yes and it was amazing! We switched at 17 months to one nap and she went from two 1-1.5 hr naps to one 2-3 hr nap and she even started sleeping better at night (11-12 hrs). It was a game changer!

looks like I'm in the minority... when my LO one was on two naps, I could rely on about 2-2.5 total hours of nap per day. Now that we're on one nap, he's pretty firmly in a 1.5 hr (maybe 2 hrs, once every 2 weeks or so) nap. I was looking forward to thes 2.5-3 hr naps but nope.

DS was on 2 naps from about 10 months until 17 months- 1.5 hrs in the am and 1 in the afternoon like clockwork. He started lengthening his morning nap at 17 months, so we switched to 1 nap, which is now exactly 2 hours of sleep (but sometimes he is fine to hang out quietly for another 15-30 mins). He still gets tired at his old nap time in the morning, but we push through. Wakeup and Bedtime are still exactly the same time.

Yes and no. He can go 2-2.5 hours at daycare, but only 1.5 hours on the button at home in his crib. I can stretch it out to 2 hours if i put him in the stroller.

F's naps were always awful. When he was on 2 naps a day, they ranged from 30min - 1.5hr each. After he switched to one nap a day (probably 4-5 months ago - he's 21mo), he naps anywhere from 2.5-3.5 hours.

For both my kids, going to one nap made naps much easier, but it didn't necessarily lengthen the total time. Right before the transition to two naps, they fought the first nap super hard and then would sleep a maximum of 30 minutes. The second nap was also hard to get them down for, but then they'd sleep around 1.5-2 hours. Once we went to one nap, they would pass out instantly and sleep for 2-3 hours. I started out by pushing the first nap as late as possible (maybe 11ish), moving it 15-30 minutes later every day, and then doing an early bedtime. Eventually, we moved the one nap to the afternoon after lunch.

We transitioned at 14 months. It took a few weeks for that nap to extend for us - he just wasn't used to sleeping over two hours at a time, plus we had poops. Once his stomach got used to it and we just started leaving him in there for the full 3 hours he started to extend. We used to have to put him down at 11am and do lunch at 1pm, but within a month he could last until noon, which meant 1130am lunch, hopefully a poop before that, and then nap at noon. Now at 19 months he can go down anytime between noon and 1pm and he'll sleep about 2.5 hours, although he sleeps longer at home than daycare. Yesterday he slept 3.5 hours!

I'm so happy we switched to one nap. Her afternoon nap is 2-3 hours and she usually STTN 12 hours. Before she still had 1-2 wake ups and it was a fight getting/keeping her down for naps. She sleeps more hours in a day now. We did the transition at 10 mo. She is 13 mo.

Sort of? When he was on two, he'd take 1.5 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. When he transitioned to one, he'd take about 2.5-3 hours. So it was longer than either of the naps before, but less sleep overall.

R is 16 months in a few days and I'm finally trying to get him on one nap. He seems to need 2 sort of....yawning in morning, etc.....but his naps have been all over the place (used to be 1.5 in the morning and 1-1.5 in the afternoon) in terms of length and we need a schedule at this point. So, 1 nap it is. He's now sleeping 730-630 and his nap is 2 hours on the button. He passes right out and wakes exactly 2 hours later. He still seems pretty tired after. I'm wondering if the nap will lengthen over time? It's hard to get him to bed earlier than 7:30, but I should probably try.

What was your experience in switching to 1 nap?
