My water broke on its own while I was in bed. It was barely a trickle. No contractions. I cleaned up, showered, then proceeded to email my work when all the sudden it was a gush like in the movies! I showered again and it just kept gushing after that. I started to have contractions on the way to the hospital (I went in because of meconium). I was more worried about it the second time! I had some false labor the second time around and it was confusing! Over 20 hours and 8 cm later, she finally broke it herself! I was 10 cm and pushing and it still hadn't broken, so they broke it for me. Small amount of fluid came out, but my son was blocking the rest, so it all came gushing out after him. I didn't say anything to the nurse(I should have but I wasnt sure if it had already been in the toilet before I used the bathroom) at that time but when my water did break for real, it looked the same as what I saw in the toilet. Possibly meconium or just some mucous. So I think it was leaking before receiving pitocin but I couldn't say for sure. My doc came in at some point to try and break my waters, but there wasn't any movie style gush at that point. Felt a little pop, had a tiny bit of fluid then nothing. It was CRAZY! It was so sudden and SO MUCH fluid.
