With DS it happened in the middle of the night, prior to contractions starting. With DD it happened when I was in the hospital, right around 9.5cm. With my first it woke me up out of my sleep with a loud popping sounds and a major gush but I didn't deliver until late the next afternoon. Turns out I was 10 cm dilated at that point anyway so good timing!</p> <p>With DD2, it broke on its own after some very mild contractions had been going on for a few hours.
