My parents had pretty stable hours. They dropped us off and picked us up around the same time every day. We stayed with our grandparents, and my parents carpooled to work, so there was only one arrival to anticipate each day.

No, he did not. Some days I wouldn't even see my dad because he'd leave before I woke up and get home after I was asleep.

My parents were both teachers, and came home by 3:30 or 4:00; could vary a bit day to day due to meetings, parents, etc. But since their work schedule followed the school day, I never really thought of it as coming home from work! It was more like we all just came home from school together. Once I was in elementary school, I would go to my mom's classroom every day after school until she was ready to go home.

My dad always took the 5:13 or 5:36 train home and arrived at 6:13 or 6:36. He still does now. When I was a young kid we had one car, so we'd go pick him up at the station. In high school, he and I shared a car, so I'd pick him up then too. To this day, for anyone being picked up there, we always wait in the exact same spot as we did then.

My mom did because she worked at the school so there was a definite end time (also she always worked at my school so I went with her). My dad came home around the same time, give or take an hour.

It changed throughout my life - when I was younger my dad always got home after my mom did (and I was homeschooled, so I was with my mom all day). By the time I was a bit older and back in public school, he got home first.

I remember one of my routines with my dad when he got home later was to hide somewhere in the house and jump out to scare him when he got home. I honestly thought that I managed to scare the pants off of him on a daily basis. It wasn't until many years later that it dawned on me he was faking it.

Nope. My mom is a nurse so she work varying shifts. My dad was in commission sales,so he got home when his work day was done. That changed often. It taught me how to clean the house in the 40 seconds between him slamming his door shut and coming in the front door!.

When my dad was in town he came home around 5:15. My mom would send me and my brother outside with bread sticks to wait for him while she finished dinner. He had at least one business trip per week though so it wasn't every single day by any means.

ETA: At my dad's retirement party this year my brother said the importance of xoming home at a decent predictable hour every night is one thing he hopes to learn from my dad.

I really loved it when my dad came home at the same time every day, and I got to give him a big hug and hang up his coat in the closet. It taught me the importance of daily rituals to kids.

Now we try to weave little routines into our daily life - like when I leave to drop our son off at school, I always ask our daughter for a hug before I walk out the door. I wasn't sure if she noticed, but then the other day I forgot to hug her and as I was walking out the door she cried out, "Daddy, daddy! You forgot my hug!!"
